Comand 2.0 Pin connections ?

Amazing that those metal plates are 50 euro, I whizzed them into a box when I bought my comand unit, although they're useless to me I'm glad I kept them ;)

Yeah the W210 ones are L shapped and they sit in their own small space. Held in with two screws ....

I dont think I would be floating the unit !
Miro, are you saying that you wouldn't recommend these brackets ?

Anyone got the part number for the the 'L' brackets as usually I get blank faces from the dealer !

I think Miro is advising you get the brackets as otherwise the unit will be 'floating' around by not being properly secured in your car.

Whether you actually need them or not is another issue. Some COMAND installs are very snug as they are without the need for the bracket(s).

Check the retrofit guides from other W210 installs and see what they did.

Thanks Alfie. From the W210 guides I've seen I've not seen the mention of these 'L' brackets and from looking at the Comand unit I can't picture where they would fit

I've just secured the new fasica and pushed in the Comand. Yes it fits snuggly to the fasica but I can imagine it can be released and whipped out quickly by some would be opportunists ! The twin spring clips do very little in this set up to stop the unit being taken out even without the MB keys.

I would be more comfortable if it was more secure and I think these brackets could make a difference. Are these brackets available from a UK dealer and is there a part number ?

Or if the car was parked and someone front ended the car the COMAND would come flying out the bracket and who knows where.

I did struggle getting some of the Pins in the C1/2 housing due to the wires being slightly thicker than the openings so it would have been a pain if I had to do this in the car than on the kitchen table !

The Mercedes wires fit nicely.

I guess no one can answer whether the W210 Comand 'L' brackets are available from the Dealer & the part no. ?

Also, confirm where & how are they fitted ?

Guys thanks for all your assistance - the finished article from start to finish :D (well, just gotta do the diagnostic connector mod. but that can wait plus I'm not too bothered if the directions don't show in the instrument cluster). Only a few selected shots. More on the next post !

Can't help with the brackets, sorry.

Great job with the install though. Do we take it that you had the correct speed signal wire?

Looks great Kwano, well done

Completed a test run on the way to work this morning and this lovely lady showed me the way ! :) (abeit a slightly different fashion !). I guess if the speed signal was wrong it wouldn't position me correctly on the map and I'll be in all sorts of funny places !

I think I will do the MY01 update too - I'm not sure if its been done but it's not showing the speed option in the Engineers Menu.

I'll have to see any of the Dealers can help with the 'L' brackets but don't hold out much hope :o

If you didn't have the speed pulse set up it'd only update your position on the map every 10 seconds or so, which makes navigation impossible.
