M5CLK has a couple of comands for sale and I wondered if any of them would be ok for me.

I have 99 CLK pre facelift. Even though I am buying a facelift dash and wheel would this be affected..?

Unless you are planning on going the whole hog and installing full CANBUS then the A163 820 36 89 is the most suitable unit for your car.

Will my choice of unit change if (or rather when) I change to the facelift cluster and wheel/controls or would it still require the same older unit..?

I think there is more to adding a CANBUS than just the cluster and the steering wheel. Miro or Richard will know for sure.

Unless you go full CANBUS your steering wheel controls wont work with your car at all. I'm not sure the instrument cluster will either!

If you do go for CANBUS then the best unit for you is either A208 820 44 89 or A210 820 56 89 both work just as well in a CANBUS W208.

What is needed to convert my car to CANBUS. Is is expensive/difficult to achieve and worth it for what I'll gain..?

As Alfie says. "would the upgraded wheel work anyway without canbus"
