2005 W215 CL500.
Very often the Comand APS in my car does not work, displaying "system unavailable". I obtained a fiber optic test loop to try and isolate the fault.

So this is what I have found out using the loop.

A) I first attached it to the Sat Nav dvd drive at a time when the system was working. Eventually the sound went off...so not the sat nav.

B) Next I bypassed the cd changer, again when the system was working...eventually the system became unavailable as it did when the sat nav was bypassed. So, not the cd changer.

C) This evening the sound was off and getting the system unavailable message and the system would switch itself off. So, I bypassed the Bose Amp and everything started working, albeit with no sound. As soon as I plugged the fiber optic cable back into the amp it would go "system unavailable" and switch off.

So, I deduce the problem is with the Bose amp...it is intermittent.

But is it the amp...or something connected into the amp, such as speakers (assuming they are connected to the amp)?

What do the acknowledged experts think?

TIA.

Its almost certainly the amp but check the speaker wiring in the door rubber tube as they are prone to break and short out. check the amp area for water ingress via the vent near it! Again a common problem.
