I'm looking to buy a 2 or 3 year old SL (R230), probably the SL350 due to budget constraints! The cars I've looked at appear to have a couple of different styles of Comand head unit indicating that at some time in the recent past there's been a change. Simplest description of change is that the newer model has a vertical row of buttons on either side of the screen (which also appears larger than on the older version).

Does anybody know when the change (or changes) occurred and whether it was on all models of the SL? Thanks.

Finally, is there a definitive source of Comand related info other than picking all your brains all the time?!!!

The difference between the comands must be:

1. CD-rom based, which is used in cars with D2B wiring.

2. DVD based, which is used in cars with MOST wiring (the newest version). (I think this comand has the vertical row of buttons on each side of the screen.)

Thanks, I hadn't made the connection between the change from CD to DVD and the change in appearance - all the more important to get a DVD version if possible.

Does anyone know when this change occurred, ie. what reg cars should I be looking for?

Thanks
Roger

I know W211 E-class has DVD comand (and MOST wiring) for MY 2003 and up; I know 2005 W203 C-classes and 2005 W209 CLKs have MOST wiring and a DVD comand unit; I know W220 S-class has DVD comand (and MOST) for MY 2004 and up... but unfortunately I don't know when the R230s got a DVD comand unit (and MOST wiring)... sorry.

Maybe you can ask your dealership?

greetingz,

BigSis
