Comand fault on slk 171

COMAND FAULT ON A 171 SLK.
this fault started after the battery was reconnected from being charged, it intermittently cuts out and the sat nav says im off road and cant find any destination, I would be very grateful for any help or suggestions

wild guess looking at GPS weirdness thread.. but how many satalites does your satnav connect to ?

im not sure its a 2005 slk 55 amg and its the unit fitted from new

SLK R171 2005 will be NTG1.

(NTG2.5 was introduced on the 2008 models)

If it was NTG2.5 I would have some suggestions. Maybe someone else can help.... sorry.

thanks anyway, I have noticed now that there is no gps signal so probably the antenna will need replacing but still doesn't explain the sound cutting out

Hi I'm totally new on here but looking for some advice with my command 2.0, ever since I've had it there's two white plastic bits that are visible if you look in the cd slot stopping a cd being inserted. I'm guessing it's jammed has this ever happened to anyone else?

This could (sadly) also be a navigation processor failing - as if it restarts you'll get sound cutting out. But maybee you have a very old map, with old software and it is just restarting because it has lost its satellites because of a failing antenna.

How old is your map disk ?

to cut a long story short it turned out that the video journey recorder that was fitted a month ago was the problem. it was fitted right next to the gps receiver why this only started after the battery was disconnected is a mystery and why this caused the stereo to cut out is also mystery but a happy ending.
