Comand NTG 2.5 shows me as 'Off Road'

When using the satnav every now and then it suddenly show the car as ‘off road’ or running along a parallel 'road' to my real location. This first appeared in my wife's car in which I retrofitted the unit. At first I thought that it could be that I had not positioned the antenna in the best place as I could not get it to show me the compass (greyed out) either but then the same issue appeared in my car which has a factory fitted unit.

Does anyone know if this a software issue and if there is a upgrade the "fixes" it?

It happens at random and at different places on both old and new roads.

Sorry but a little confused. Was the unit moved from your car to hers? If so, what model & year did it come from? And was it was doing the same in your car before you moved it?

IMO so long as its a not oft occurence then it might be normal.

Every MB I have had has done it at one time or another.....

Both cars have the same model Comand 2.5. one is factory fitted and one is retrofitted. Both have the same issue albeit more often in my wife's car.

Its just a poor antenna, I have had similar things one ones I have fitted, I now have a genuine roof antenna and never see this any more

I had similar problems with comand in my ML and replaced the antenna with a £7 one from ebay, was perfect after that.
Could be worth a try first..........if you do find its the antenna its just a matter of fixing the new one in the dash above the radio/air vents with some velcro, just make sure the metal base of the new antenna is facing down! It picks up fine through the IP top and glass screen.

Where did you put the antenna ?

This happens when there is not enough satellites in view.

Or when the USA tweak the GPS when they are in a military operation (ok so thats my theory) :-(

Or when a GPS antenna is failing (or you've used a duff one thats not quite compatible with the unit)
