COMAND NTG2.5 Update Check

My HDD contents reference is 3.005.2301, which would suggest it's a much earlier version; or, of course, maybe not. No doubt there is some German logic to it all...

Perhaps I should just take a punt on this: 2019 MERCEDES NTG2.5 SAT NAV DVD DISC LATEST MAP FINAL UPDATE | eBay. The seller's feedback is excellent, and it's cheap enough not to matter if it turns out it's unnecessary.

I bought the DVD's from navidvd via Ebay, genuine MB. The listing shows Version 16.0 2019 and is the last one issued by MB. It also states that firmware update 09/29 is needed - but notes that this firmware update adds extra functionality like Eco mode navigation routing, which I believe the OP mentioned having so must have had 09/29 installed.

Not certain that listing is for genuine MB DVD's, same seller 2019 MERCEDES NTG2.5 SAT NAV DVD DISC LATEST MAP FINAL UPDATE | eBay, bit more expensive but in a genuine MB box so appears genuine. You have to be careful as non-genuine DVD's have been known to brick a comand system!

It takes around one hour for the maps data to complete the upload from the DVDs, during which time you can drive the car normally (but you will obviously not be able to use the navigation while the maps are being updated).

In fact, there's no need to go on a long drive - you can start the update, go on a shorter drive as needed, and then just park the car and switch the engine off when you arrive at your destination, the maps update process with then pause. The next time you start the engine, COMAND will continue the update from where it stopped before. You can do this several times until the update is complete.

If you want to let COMAND run the update while the car is stationary, then you can either leave the engine running at idle (not ideal) to keep the battery charged, or you can do this with the ignition on and engine off while the battery is connected to a trickle charger (this is what dealers do). And remember to check progress from time to time, because at some point you will be promoted to change the DVD. But don't be tempted to just leave the update to run without charging the battery, because COMAND will switch itself off after a while (when the battery voltage starts going down).
