Coming back to MB from VAG

It is no contest, I would take the 350 every time over the 250, it is far smoother and quiter and even a remapped 250 wouldn't match it for torque. I would suggest you try them both and I think you would make the same choice. By the way it is a V6 motor not straight and regards your earlier post Adblue is on the Bluetec engines not the earlier Blue Efficiency.

Straight 6 i was referring to a standard 350 as opposed to a mapped one.
As long as I can achieve more than 42mpg, I will go with whatever engine does that.

Thanks

wow 289K, that's reassuring!

I am not worried by the dpf issues, as I have had none with my current car.
have you had MB servicing exclusively for the water pump and shocks to be replaced at that mileage?
What do you pay for the servicing, as I would imagine you must have at least 3 per year?

Thanks for the heads up re BMworld, confirmed what I suspected.

I will have a look at mercworld and see if they have anything in my price range

Cheers

Most of that mileage was in the first 3 years of ownership, so I was having 4/5 services a year. I think the A service from memory was £239 and the B service £329 but I got a 15% discount on those prices from Mercedes because I saw them so often.

The shocks were replaced under warranty and the water pump as a goodwill gesture by Mercedes, which I must admit surprised me a bit as the car was about 9 months out of warranty.

The other thing is I find them very good on tyres as well doing the amount of motorway driving I was. I am still on a set of Conti winters which I put on in November 2014 at 236k miles and there is still a good few miles left in them yet. Contrary to popular opinion they don't melt in hot weather.

The old girl is now in semi retirement, I have only done 3k miles I think since January this year but still running well. These cars hide their mileage exceptionally well, it has no creaks, knocks or rattles and could easily be mistaken for a car with many miles less on the clock.

Just to reinforce what others have said. Avoid BM World like the plague for either buying or servicing. They are fairly near to me. The problem is thay have tempting prices (which may not or may not materialise in practice), but just Google them. You will be shocked by the reviews.

i am considering using them, only thing putting me off is the warranty, RAC platinum, as I would be unable to take the car back there if any issues and have seen many bad reviews about this particular warranty not paying up.

Can anyone recommend a dealer down in kent?

Thanks

Go for a 2011 350cdi, it will have the newer 7g "plus" gearbox and it is so much better.
Plus you will see a good 15% better economy.

No offence to the 4cyl cars, but they just never feel special like the 6cyl cars.

I had the 350cdi estate, 2010 and just didn't get on with it. I am now in a 2011 E350 petrol and love it.

I really, really don't like the 220 diesels, to be honest, if you're going to go with a 4cyl diesel you may as well stick with VAG and save some money, or buy a 520d, BMW seem to have got the 4cyl diesels much better than Merc or VAG in terms of power and economy.
The thing is Merc is about refinement, hence I simply don't think the 4cyl diesels work in them.

And don't use Big Motoring World, some absolute horror stories from people who have used them on the BMW forums.

Thanks, I'm on the lookout for a 350CDI, 2011

do you know if the sport has a hard ride, or is it adjustable?

Thanks

I recently got this car for my wife. The ride is superb, well controlled and very compliant. It adjust according to your driving style I.e if you're pressing on ,the shocks stiffen up but,if you're just tootling about, it's soft and supple.

I recently made a claim on the RAC Platinum warranty and zero issues. Were happy to deal with my usual garage.

It is firm, but not as crashy as the VAGs imho.

You really need to take one out and see.

Remember 2011 can be a crossover from the 7g and 7g+ 'box, a big difference.

What is the difference? Would the more powerful 350cdi have this box?

Thanks

The difference?
You have been in VAGs far too long. ;)

You need to take one out and see, it will be pretty obvious when you drive it. :thumb:

They all have this 'box, just the 4cyl cars before the 7g+ had the 5g 'box and the 6cyl cars had the 7g non +.
It is not all that easy to tell, even the dealers tend to be clueless on which has which.

The 5 speed cars moved the gear selector from the standard centre console type to the steering wheel stalk type. The 6cyl cars have always had the steering wheel type so harder to tell.

Even trying to tell from the VIN is not easy. But post cars up that you like the look of and we should be able to help.

my car is now up for sale so let the wait begin.....
First time seling a car...

My 2013 E350CDi Coupe, has 7+ box , also the Autobox has the shifter on the transmission tunnel .

How do you find getting in and out of the coupe in small parking spaces, or do you always avoid them?

I take it the 7+ has a stick in the usual place then?

Thanks

Tight spaces can be a problem, more so if you get someone park up close to drivers door, I have had to climb in through passenger door on one occasion  My Autobox is gear change mounted on transmission tunnel , normal place ! . The doors on the Coupe are big so you do need to be aware . :thumb:

I've got a C class coupe and have the same problem, I always try to get a bay at the end of a row.
