Not my car, but a problem someone has brought to me.

Occasionally when starting the car the command fails to boot properly.

Apparently it sit's there witha blank screen for a short while then the mercedes logo appears after about 10 seconds or so but the unit fails to start.
Restarting the car causes it to reboot and it starts normally.

The software has been upgraded but this still continues.

Any ideas.?

this happens to my gl sometimes but always loads up!!!have i got trouble to???NOT hyjacking your thread:p regards jon

Worth a try.

I had a similar problem. I bought a CD cleaner from ebay for a couple of quid.

The CD has two point on it that have a tiny brush attached to it. All you do it put a blob of cleaning fluid on the brushes and put the disc in and follow instructions when the disc plays, ie skip to track 9.

The cd even plays music while it cleans.

I doubt it is the laser. You've not stated the model of car or version of comand but if it's a 2.0 or 2.5 DX cd-type then laser problems manifest themselves post-boot, normally when you try to read a disc for any reason.

Similar problem here with my 2005 SLK Comand. It used to do this very often in the early days but after several re-flashes and lastest downloads, (i'm no expert with this sort of stuff & terminology), the problem became less of an issue.

Even now, and only very - very occasionally, comand will not start or recommence a DVD and seems to "lock up" and the only way to get it to re start is to eject from the head unit the current video DVD then stick it back in then bingo, it will play.

I find that if I turn it on and off via the button, and not rely on the ignition, it seems to behave itself. Voltage spikes maybe?

Portzy.

Not 100% but it's an E class and I think it's an '05 car. I don't think there have been any mods tot eh car since built but not sure what it's got.

A common issue with people retrofitting comand is that the device simply powers off after about 20 seconds. This is caused by the device looking for other devices on the fibre bus. Without coding or a loop back fibre, the problem will remain. Even though the COMAND may have been installed from new, the same problem occurs if there is a break in the already installed fibre loop or if another fibre component is faulty.

From the sound of things I suspect that there is either a loose connector in one of the devices or possibly some damage to the fibre cable. I would check all the fibre connections especially in the boot and proceed from there.

As its a 2005 car, it should still be under warranty. Might be worth having it taken to a main dealer!
