Command Questions

As Kompressor said, The look is Just my opinion!
You can get a car power source off Ebay for a fiver for the PS2 and have wireless controllers.
To get the AV inputs on comand you need the TV version which has inputs, although Alfie and richard may have some other solutions.

Where did you get the 240v power supplier for a fiver? Could you put a link up please mate? All the ones iv found are £30+

you can also get wireless guitars for guitar hero...... now there's a unique mod

so you plug that into your cigarette lighter and that is the power source for the PS2. So it can work on a TV???

COMAND is a lot more than just sat nav. And even if you have all the separate systems that make up COMAND, such as sat nav, phone, audio system, tv, etc, as separate systems they do not equate to the total of COMAND.

The key word is "integrated": COMAND integrates all these functions and their management, dependencies, operational controls and presentations on the various displays into a single system deeply integrated with the rest of the car (including integration with linguatronic for example).

The speed sensitive volume control, auto mute of other sources when making/receiving calls or getting sat-nav directions, the ability to set individual volume levels for different sources and to specify volume differential for the sat nav directions over other audio sources, etc, etc, al make COMAND a truly integrated experience.

When I am driving with the sat nav on, I have the map on the big screen, and the direction symbols in the cluster display so that I don't need to take my eyes of the road. Similarly, when you're making a handsfree call, you get the visual feedback in the cluster - same for all the other systems. They can also all be operated through the same linguatronic interface. This working together of the cluster display, linguatronic and the main COMAND unit is the type of integrated experience you would not get with separate systems to the same extent.

And then there is the fact that COMAND is properly integrated into the console, not a series of add ons all looking, feeling, behaving differently, but stylistically part of the car.

IMHO my "older" COMAND generation to me works better in that respect compared to more recent versions. This is not just a matter of style though.

Things like portable sat navs are what makes thieves smash your window to nick them. With an integrated system such as COMAND in my car, that problem is a lot less (and you don't need the portable sat nav actually in your car to fall victim to that, the tell tale suction marks on the windscreen or dash are often enough).

Of course, each to their own, but to me COMAND is a lot more than a conglomerate of individual devices/services and I would not buy a Merc without it any more.

I totally agree with these comments. I have retrofitted Comand to both W203s pre-facelift (pre-owned) and my current facelift model, and wouldn't be without it.
The only minor drawback is the lack of 7 digit postcode at this time, but I'm sure this will come. Despite this Comand is a superb piece of integrated kit.

You could also wiring it in so you can still use the lighter socket, as I have done. The tv would be seperate, depending on which way you go(Comand or Afer market) The bonus of the PS2 is that it doubles as a DVD player. all this can be hidden. I challenge you to find buckshee wires in my car!

Probably easiest to wire it direct into a 12v supply and ignore the cigarette connection. Anyone know where's best to steal this feed from. Im going to have it all wired up under the passenger footwell if possible?

When it comes to the wiring I leave that to the experts!
Shouldnt be too much trouble to take a feed from the Cigar lighter in the front though, or even the one in the rear at the back of the centre console.

Thinking about it, the head unit's ignition feed would be good, so PS2 is only active when the screen is switched on :D

Think i've found myself a weekend project!

ok, i want to buy a stand alone GPS (NAVMAN)

Can i wire that to the car so that i don't need to use the cigarette Lighter????
then i'll find myself somewhere to put a TV IN...

:)
