A180 w169 2006 2.0 cdi
The sat nav has never worked in car, No GPS, I think I have an NG2 but not sure, car is 2006 A180.

Don't mind sat nav not working just a pain I cant set clock in car, radio is fine, and if really need sat nav just use me phone or stick me tablet with a bit of blue tack behind auto shifter LOL.

Have been reading loads of info on site (Many Thanks to ALL)

Seam if I try and fix could be looking a opening a can of worms

Is there any way I can set the time with out going to a dealer?

any other suggestion on simple things to check or just leave well alone.

Thanks

Terry

The easiest and cheapest fix is to replace the GPS antenna with one that sits under the dashboard above the speedometer. £75 DIY with genuine Mercedes antenna. Once fitted, wait 15 minutes for the Comand to spot the satellites and all is good!

30 minute job.

Also, on some models there's a menu option where you can choose if the time is set by GPS or manually.

However I am not sure if/where this option is on a 2006 A180.

Thanks to both, Looking at owners manual it says set from steering wheel, unless command fitted, from small indents left on trim surround to remove panel above and below command im guessing previous owner been in there before and not found issue, from history of car, mots where serviced and last entry into sat nav, looks like car for past few years owned and serviced by a trucking company not MB , which would explain niggles not fixed on car as would need specialist knowledge.

Ill have a look at antenna after ive done with tail gate.

Many Thanks

Had a chance to have a quick look at system, as I have sad before, the niggles with car, all look as if someone has been in there before and not got to bottom of issues, Today was a prime example , as said were marks around radio, using me plastic trim prys I got of the lower panel off no problem, the top came of very easy, now can see why all the clips were broken and looks like dab of glue used to hold in place FFS.

So removed unit and for what ever reason all but the big plastic connector and aerial were disconnected ? I have reconnected the white block and the blue and yellow aerial like connectors, pushed back in, now seam to have GPS signal and can set time, radio works ect as it did before, I cant think of reason why someone would leave all these disconnected Unless they though may be linked to the other issues on car since fixed like needing new battery when that was in poor condition gave various electrical issues on car, rear tail gate lock draining system, fob batteries, water in battery box and condensation I have removed and checked all fuses ect.

Not taken car out yet, sat nav is still stuck in it last known position and even tho can now set clock on sat nav it dose not change the time on dash? and date is year 00, but the NO GPS issue is gone.

Do I need to drive car for sat nav to pick up sats, ?
Do I need to pull fuses to reset system?

Many Thanks

Tezz.

Hmm now need to find replacement trim for above radio.

Sounds like a trip round the M25 to J3 M3 and a mile later to Unique Car Sounds AKA comand.co.uk would be worthwhile! That's Alfie from the response above!

So took disc out, fuses, checked connections again, took for a drive as needed diesel and Sat Nav is now all working 100% as far as I can tell , seams to have picked up 7 sats and on map follows roads ect spot on, radio all still working., the sat nav information is now displayed on dash ect

But still when set clock on sat nav dose not update dash display, will have to have a read of owners books to see if im setting correctly.

still at a loss why it was all disconnected tho?

as I don't know history of when faults started or in what order having to go through them one by one.

only thing I can think of was dying battery was effecting command it turned on and off a few times not since new battery fitted , rear tail gate hang up was effecting battery , fixed so removed battery drain, and they some how came to conclusion was command. I honestly have no idea, will just have to see if any issues with command on a longer run but for now seams almost ok.

apart from clock is last niggle on car to fix if you exclude the newly discovered bodged vent cover above radio :-(

Any thoughts on this issue ?

It says in book the date will auto update and command clock and dash will auto sync, Mine dose neither

seen a few posts on exactly the same issue but there is never a solution.

any help greatly appreciated

apart from this everything seams to work fine

Thanks

Also, on some models there's a menu option where you can choose if the time is set by GPS or manually.

However I am not sure if/where this option is on a 2006 A180.

Check the menus on your instrument cluster... see if there's an option to choose between setting the time on the instrument cluster manually and obtaining it from the GPS.

My W203 had this option. When I had COMAND retrofitted, I noticed that the time on the instrument cluster wasn't synchronized with the time on COMAND. Setting the instrument cluster to get the time from the GPS sorted it.

Thanks

I did check for this option and looked in book, it says option is only available if command is not fitted to set clock on dash, if fitted you set time via command and date is set automatically.

Thanks

Read as many post as I could find, so far no solution posted, looks like im joining the clock/date issue club :-(

Had a quick look in the engineering mode, did not want to change anything but looks like software is 2006, hardware part number was 1698209289

But as everything else is working and giving correct time and ETA on Sat Nav ill guess ill just live with it, unless find a very cheap Gen MB disc to try

Thanks to all for suggestions. If I ever find a solution ill pop back and post it

I have the same unit with the 6 cd changer under the panel below it

I have the same unit. To set the clock you press the SERV button followed by System and then Time. Setting the time here updates it on the binnacle too.

Yes im aware that's how its supposed to work (see above)

Issue I have is it dose not update dash

No problem, thanks for taking time to try and help.

The issue I have seams to be an issue lots of MB owners have had in past.

The date in Sat Nav with not auto update , time from Sat Nav to dash will not sync.

Im thinking has picked up a software glitch

Theres a big issue with GPS date which started last year when the 1024 week counter rolled over back to zero and lots of systems went back in time to 1024 weeks before. (In fact some changed at 1000 weeks very strangely) - i.e the software developer hadn't dealt with the GPS specification that says how to deal with the 1024 week roll over, or had misread it and failed to program it correctly at 1000 weeks.

This is probably what's affecting you. The best fix is for us to re-configure the instrument cluster so you can disconnect the time function so you can set the time in the instrument cluster. Saying that, your map disk is really old, get a new GENUINE one (not a copy) and use that. It has the software update for the navigation processor and the display functions on your NTG2 COMAND system, and will update when you first insert it. If you use a copy you risk this software update going wrong and turning your unit into a brick.

- the vendors of copy disks all say "never had a problem" - they are all lying, we regularly have to fix the problems - sometimes we can fix the unit, last week we had a NTG4 W204 COMAND that couldn't be fixed and customer had to have a replacement unit ... The other issue with copy disks is they are not as reflective as manufactured disks and the COMAND units run hotter which reduces the laser life. Cars are nasty places for electronics ..
