Hi All
I just bought a set of Mercedes map update disks for command NTG4 2012 v10 for my 2008 c series, I didn't read the small print. http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/images/smilies/doh.gif
The disks state that they are only for cars up to 3 years old, my car is outside that now at 4 years old, is there any point in me trying to do the update, or is there a work around I can do.
if not I guess it will be fleabay.
thanks Ken

Check here. It would appear that part# A2048279259 covers everything up to vehicles built from March 2011.

Be aware that some map updates require specific COMAND firmware updates to have been applied. The install routine will check for such a prerequisite and stop if there's an issue.

thanks Phil
I will try it and see what happens, although the disks I have have an extra 2 digits on the end and are part# A2048279259 94. probably for dealer use to update cars still under 3 year warranty?

Well I went ahead and ran the update disks, and they installed without a hitch to my surprise, although it took about 2 hours to do it. as command kept shutting down while my back was turned, is there a setting somewhere, to keep it on for longer?

so It seems the less than 3 years old statement is a red herring.

I will now pass them on with confidance

Might be interested - but at 10 posts you can't PM! Email me at chrishazle at hotmail dot co dot uk.

The 94 part numbers are the disks released to the dealers for them to update cars up to 3 years old. which no doubt some tech at a dealer has decided to sell as they had a few extra copies in the workshop as large dealers get multiple sets :-(

Although you have bought the disks, you have not in-fact bought a licence to use the disks (much like buying a copy of Microsoft Office that has already been used, but of course no licence key mechanism)

So, using them is in fact copyright violation.

But they will work subject to having reasonably new firmware on your COMAND.

MB have now implemented a PIN code mechanism (NTG3.5 and NTG4.5) to prevent update disks being used on multiple cars.

Also, the "correct" way of updating the car is to leave the ignition on (so COMAND doesn't shut-down) with a stabilised power supply connected (we have a device that stabilises car at 14.4V for use for this and when flashing control modules)
