Compatible phones

The 0000 method of syncing contacts uses Nokia Sync. I have found that syncing the phone with PC Suite on the PC installs some support software on the phone which then makes contacts sync work using BT SAP.

Thanks for the tip but still no luck. PCSuite did install some stuff on the phone and does synch OK with it.

The other odd thing is the MB phone randomly shows "Virgin" or "TMOBILE UK" as my provider, both work. My sim card changed to Virgin about a month back, other phones dont get confused. I also tried putting the sim card in the car, still no contacts, the 0000 thing didnt work with the sim in the car but it did make and receive calls as usual.

Anyone know how to reset the SAP module? Any other suggestions? Any updates for the SAPV2 or Audio 20 that might fix this?

The N86 should have the same S60 release as the phone I'm using (S60 3.2) and mine syncs fine the phone book from the phone. I have a BT SAP V2 adapter (the one with the handset).

Some claim the sync server version 1.1 works better but I think mine is using the default 1.2 version.

My E71 is the same; Server 1.2, Symbian 60 3.2 and works fine.

I suppose it's worth checking the Sync/PC Suite settings' making sure data bearer is Bluetooth and allow and accept sync requests is set to "Yes"

Can I check the my synch settings against some one with a Nokia that works with SAP V2?

Everything except email set to synch.

Sync Profile:
Name: PC Suite
Server Version: 1.1
Data Bearer: Bluetooth
Host Address: PC Suite
Username: None
Password: Blank
Allow Synch Requests: Automatically Accept
Synchronization Type: Both Ways

Contact Sync Settings:
Database in phone: C:Contacts.cdb
Contacts Database: Contacts

I've seen comments about server version 1.1 working better but myself I have all the same settings as you do except my sync server version is 1.2.

I'm using this V2 BT SAP adapter in a pre-facelift W221.

Thanks for the confirmation DB.

Theres definitely something weird going on with my setup. I changed phone from a Samsung on T-Mobile (Contacts synched perfectly with this) to the N86 on Virgin.

75% of the time the dash shows "T-MOBILE" as the provider. The other 25% of the time it shows the correct "Virgin".

Dialling 0000 from the phone causes the phone to disconnect from the car and come back about 2 mins later but still no contacts. I tried disconnectcing the SAP module for 30 min from the car but this didnt help. It must be getting this wrong T-mobile provider info from somewhere. Is there anyway I can reset the phone module?

Mine's the same except the contacts database is set to None and isn't editable.

My server is set to 1.1 but it has also worked with 1.2

Nothing worked until I had synced it with PC Suite on the PC, during which support files were installed on the phone. Everything worked fine after that.

Virgin is just a reseller for other networks so I think the provider display is just a red herring.

I have just reinstalled the PC Suite files and still no synch. Would someone just mind checking the version of the "Contacts Group DS Plugin" they have (I think this is is the relevant bit of software that PCSuite installs), I've got version 1.22[0].

Do you store contacts on the sim or the phone?

My plugin is the same version as yours. I don't have any contacts stored on the SIM.

I can see how storing contacts on the SIM might work without sync, COMAND reading them directly from the SIM just as it does with SMS messages but I've never tried this.

I've got the 1.11(0) vresion. Odd if you have 1.22, I thought mine was quite recent. I'm using the older PCSuite instead of OVI Suite if that makes any difference.

On my V1 BT SAP adapter I only got the SIM contacts synchronised. That was automatic, dialling 0000 did not download my address book from the phone but it works with the V2 adapter. I've never checked but I thought the V2 too downloaded SIM contacts plus contacts from the phone when requested but it may not be the case (I only have duplicates on the SIM to those that I have stored to my Comand "permanently" and would not see the difference. I should test this some time with a dummy test entry).

It's worth checking if you have the latest version of the Symbian OS for your phone. I'm not sure about Virgin but operators are notorious for "crippleware"' disabling functions like GPS etc.

Hi AMWebby,

I unlocked the phone and installed that latest 3.0 firmware all works fine with the phone (Navigation is much better) but still no luck with the RSAP kit.

In fact I've noticed the RSAP eats text messages. When I receive a message in the car the speakers beep, the audio 20 says message received and that the end of it, the message is gone forever :(

The text messages are there, they're stored on your SIM card, which makes sense if you think about it. Go to messages on your phone, choose SIM messages and copy them back to your inbox.

Hi Roger,

Just wanted to say thanks, I found the "lost" messages. I think I will take my car in to the Comand people once warranty expires, would like mirrors to fold on lock and tyre PSI reading so maybe they know of some sort of firmware upgrade for the RSAP or Audio 20 or know how to fix this.

Auto-folding mirrors can only be activated in the later cars. Basically if your mirrors don't fold with one touch it isn't possible. I looked into retrofitting TPS but it isn't cheap; just shy of £2,000. I'm looking into aftermarket systems. There is a very nice one that uses your iPhone to read the sensors by wireless but no Nokia app yet.

You may be able to have tyre pressure loss warning enable via Star depending on the ABS firmware. This is a totally software system, no pressure display but does tell you of gross pressure loss.
I had this done on my car by Alfie :)
