Convertible cars with the roofs up rant !!!

Yesterday I drove along the M5 doing 70 mph with the soft top and windows down. Outside temperature gauge reading at the outset, 13.5c and the sun was shining. Not even the wind chill could take the smile off my face - real bliss.

I have my roof down as often as I can. I love it!:bannana::bannana:

If it's a bit chilly then I wear my genuine Mercedes fleece!

I've noticed my wind deflector getting a bit agitated at 110mph. :D

It's been a great few days for the convertible.

I ended up cracking my perspex wind deflector in Germany roof down at 140 (cannot remembet if that was KPH though....) :) :)

Had my roof down today for my 5 minute journey to pick my daughter up :bannana:

I don't have a convertible, but I would feel too exposed with the roof down when driving around town. There's a lot of car crime around and, to me, it seems like having your top down is inviting car thieves.
On an open road I'm with you 100%, you paid for it, use it!

I'm with you there. In cities I enjoy the security and isolation of having a roof over my head, windows closed and climate control on :)

When I had my convertible, it was roof down as often as possible. I really miss it. I particularly liked winter - something special about driving roof down on a clear bright frosty morning (minus five was about the coldest I did it). And I also liked driving roof down at night.

The only restrictions were that I didn't like folding the roof down after heavy rain/dew/frost - didn't want it stored away wet - and first thing in the morning when I had wet hair from the shower - I'm not normally fussed, but a 70mph blow-dry wasn't a great look when I arrived at the office....

i'snt that the same as asking why you buy a 155mph car and never go that fast?

There are lots of reasons not to have the roof down sometimes.

Best reason I heard was "it's too hot"!!

I'm with you on that - can't afford a new-ish CLK Cab so am looking at alternates and personally like the Eos.

Apparently the EOS roof has an affinity to leak a bit.

Better off with a used A4 convertible or CLK IMHO. BMW 3 series CC also within reach and you get nice 6pot engine noise too (ducks for cover)

have heard this although unsubstantiated afaik.

better off with a used a4 convertible or clk imho. Bmw 3 series cc also within reach and you get nice 6pot engine noise too (ducks for cover)

will be trying the others when i get a chance although am sure my local vw dealer will be very accommodating with a test drive!

:d

I've had a lot of stoopid cars over the years, lots of em with removable roofs and yeah the top does come off at every opportunity, personally i think all you lot are sissies with your luxurious doors, real men get the wind up they're shorts too. ;)

Drove down to the Med last year with the roof down all the way there and back but whilst on the coast the roof was up - it was too hot!
