Converting A CLS Into A Five Seater

That's how I fitted a lap belt in the cosworth. Used the outer mounting points.

Mbenznl has cls seats in his 211 so it shouldn't be too difficult to go the other way round.

There are conversion kits on ebay for vehicles like the x6. Might be worth dropping them a bell and see what they can offer you.

I think that's the answer for the OP then : find a 211 in a breakers ( with the same colour interior as his own car ) and try the back seat to see if it will fit . Assuming it does , he can store all the original bits from his own car and have the option to put it back if selling the car later .

A lap belt from pretty much any saloon should fit the existing mount points without difficulty .

I must say I like individual rear seats and still keep my eyes open for a 560SEL breaking with that option , which I always fancied retrofitting them to my 500SEL , currently with the electric reclining rear bench . Sadly , not so many 126's to be found breaking these days .

Wouldn't the centre lap belt simply share the inner mounting points of the two outer belts ? That has been the arrangement in any car I've had .

I am coming round to the idea of a centre lap seat belt. It could be fitted to as Pontoneer says, and would be useful on occasions. Easy to fit and remove before sale. With three grandchildren, the youngest being a smallish 6yr old it would be useful. When its warmer, I will investigate and be interested to see if anyone on this thread does it. As for the whole seat change, too much for me, but I think my 'legal' reservations for a 3rd lap belt have been resolved.

Saw a french film recently that showed three big guys getting out the back of a CLS.

Wouldn't want to be you if you had your little treasure onboard and ever had a prang where the police got involved.

Regardless of the law, lap belts are dangerous enough on their own let alone with a slippery centre console that wouldn't hold them back at all.

Just mine obviously but I wouldn't let my kids go in any of those third row seats either, crumple zones are meant to be made of metal not flesh, not so bad in a substantial estate but those little people carriers are appalling.

You are right of course, reservations just returned, never really likely to do it anyway. Just been looking at an SLK on 2yr lease (see general posts) definitely not an option on an SLK!!

Using an upholsterer, a seatbelt, a few bolts and a bit of imagination, are there any problems with converting a CLS from a four seater to a five?

I know I'll have to inform VOSA etc about the change, but I can't really think of any other obstacles.

Is it done yet? Pictures when finished would be appreciated.

have there been some other obstacles?

any update please

Hi all, very curious as to what happened, does anyone know if the 3 seat conversation happened?

Hi there, did you have any luck with converting 3 seats in the back of the cls?? I am hoping to buy one if it is possible.. Thanks
