coolant drops

Nice one brian.
i shall only swallow small quantities.
At the worst if i have to do the gasket, i know it is a head out job, but do the chain and the tensioners have to come out as well, as i might as well change them too.
Thanks
The tensioner has to come out but the chain can stay there. Easier to replace the chain whilst the engine is complete and timed.

and split the chain.
Not strictly true on an M111 engine

it has done about 116k. I shall confirm the leak first tommorow and how much to sort out, then decide if it is worth fixing it, or just driving it into the ground until it explodes.:D

right : update and thanks everyone

Since yesterday all leaking has stopped but there are creamish deposits down the left side of the engine under the exhaust manifold(do not know how long they have been there).

The first garage said head gasket (not a specialist)
the next specialist said come back in 3wks too busy, and the last specialist when i said do a compression test, said he can see from experience that the gasket is said bust, so i am waiting to be completely sure before i even consider going ahead .
Price ranges from £350-650 and 3- 4 days
As my own garage does not open on saturday ( too comfortable perhaps)
i shall take it there on monday and if it is the gasket then i shall consider my options.
car worth about 2k and will require new oil and coolant plus chain and whatever else.
all filler caps still clear so maybe we might just drive it into the ground until it stops then.

as i see it, it could be a cracked manifold/ head/ block and not the gasket so until something definite happens, who knows

If you are going to get the head done, it would be well worth replacing the chain/tensioner at 116K IMHO :)

Right. the problem has been discovered as a gasket blown on the left side of the engine as you face it.
It is making some coolant leak down the side of the engine and on to the ground. saw it myself this morning.
The only bright side is that it is not leaking into the engine hence the golden colour clear oil and clear radiator caps.
seems like an expensive job and my 911 is at risk of being seized from me.:D
anyway i am just awaiting some quotes and if we decide to go ahead it will be a chain and associated bits.

What a way to start the new year.

Ian what is the quote for this
