Cooling on W202 C280 V6

You can borrow mine ;)
Hm - just noticed your fan shroud is much smaller than mine. Checked the russian site and it suggests that you have and electric fan instead of a viscous one behind the rad?

Also suggests that later models can have the twin fans infront of the radiator depending on option code 808/809.

Wifes W203 320 has no viscous fan just an elec one in its place behind the rad not in front of it as per w210.

Dash set to show temp (how ******g stupid is that having to set dash to show eng temp?)

Ran to work variety of speeds never once went over 85 deg c.

Which is of course the model year code - e.g. 98 twin fans in front, 99 not.

And although mine should be a 99my car it sat around for a few months before being sold. Seems to be right on the boundary as it has all the 99MY options except the adjustable steering though (and then odd trim differences like this).

I've seen a very late C240 , 2000 model with just a single large electric fan and this was an aircon model.

My old 1998 C240 had the belt driven fan with the two electric aircon fans in front.

Hi All again,
Didn't know I was going to start quite such a big debate with my original post yeaterday. Anyway thanks to all and just to confirm that my C280 is quite a late W202 with just an electric fan and no viscous fan and nothing removed. It seems there have been all manner of variations of electric / viscous / twin fans etc although goodness knows why.

Another possibloe cause of these symptoms is a furred up radiator - making it inefficient. Get the car hot and then run the back of your hand over the front of the rad - see if it is an even temperature all over - if not try flushing it - failing that you need a new one at some point. Whilst the temperature is within range it probably will not do the car any good to keep running it at up to 100 degrees regularly.
