Cost of an Oil Change

I'm looking to get the oil and filter changed on my 2000 SLK 320.
Does anyone know roughly how much it will cost?

Cheers,

Carl

I wouldn't trust KWIK FIT to clean my windscreen.

Go to Costco and get the oil, filter from MB or OEM from Euro and DIY! That way you know its been done correctly as you've done it yourself. It will be slightly more than the Kwik Fit price above but has its benefits.

So two people who have actually done it and had no problems should be ignored in favour of "dont let them wash your windscreen". The reality is Kwik fit employs thousands of people some are numpty's and some are excellent. I suggest you go to a Kwikfit and ask if they have some one who has done your model before, or is used to Mercs electronic dipstick. Confirm exactly what they will do and supervise as I did if you feel the need.

I have used KwikFit in Cirencester for tyres and A/C regassing on my wife's CR-V and have had two new tyres on mine from them - find them very helpful, do a good job and price match anything I can find locally.

So I suppose I was lucky - but - when my Granddaughter's car needed brake work in Thirsk - the firm there dealt with her and me via the phone very well and we negotiated the price down to an acceptable level.

Some MB dealers, from what I read on here are worth avoiding, as are some Kwikfit stations.

My local Mercedes dealer wants £150.
My local garage wants £180!

Are you handy at DIY?

My local Indie did a full oil & filter change for £105

My local Kwik Fit did it for £39.95.... It's only an oil change almost impossible to screw that up...

I know but a few people have had bad experiences with these Kwik Fit oil changes and as R2D2 mentions, you have to make sure you stand over them and supervise the work.

Some of them are so useless and don't have a clue, they shouldn't be let near anybody's car.

I would not let Anyone at Kwik Fit change a light bulb let alone let them loose on my car....Some are good but most are just douche's with little or no talent or sense. My 2 cents.

Had an oil and filter change done at ATS (similar to Qwik Fit) a couple of years ago. Price was good, £35-eesh, but since then the low oil level light comes-on from time to time for no apparent reason (oil level is correct). Maybe they touched the sensor wire by mistake, or maybe this has something to do with using low-quality oil filter (car has been services only at Toyota dealer up to that day) - donnow. Hope this helps...

Anyone can make a mistake, but an oil change only has a few mistakes that can be made. If you can see the filter you can see it's been changed. If you can pull a dipstick you can see it's got new oil and has been refilled to the right level.

So with my 211 being electronic level and no reusable dipstick I get my trusted garage to change the oil, not Kwik Fit. Otherwise I would.

I have personally experienced going to a garage (Vx main dealer) with a Zafira for a service, and making note of the parking bay it was in then picking it up on the evening and a few basic checks (cold engine, dirty oil, incorrect tread depths on the survey sheet, still in same parking spot) showed that it hadn't been moved. Main dealers are as tricky to judge as anyone else.

A friend (years back when Halfords did servicing) dropped his prelude in, a simple mistake in procedure lead to...

1. Put waste container under car
2. Remove sump plug
3. Wait for oil to drain
4. Add correct amount of new oil as per book
5. Replace sump plug...

It drove about 4 miles towards home...

So since both of the above I check, every time, but the 211 has no dispstick...

Got my filter and oil changed today on the E55 using 0w/40 Mobil 1 - watched over the job and all done for £29.95 minus £3 discount as I insure with Kwik Fit.

Grand total of £26.95 - can't complain really...!!!

I was quoted that price by my local Kwik-Fit but I was also asked if I wanted to 'upgrade' to fully synthetic oil which would be £50.
