Hi everyone,

I've recently bought a secondhand W124 wing (albeit non-rusty and genuine MB  ) from a nice guy here on the forum.

Only problem really being is that I'm quite far away so need to get it couriered somehow.

Due to the slightly unusual/large size, I've been getting some silly quotes for delivery. Does anyone here know of any companys to try?

Size is 1300 x 600 approx, about 7kg.

Failing that, if I can't arrange a financially viable method of collection :(, I'd happily pass it on to a good home locally if not (Midlands).

Cheers,

Will

I get up to the Midlands quite regularly, whereabouts is it? You never know, either I or a fellow member might be able to help you out:)

Hi Matt,

That's a very kind offer :) although I wouldn't want to put anyone out of their way for an old wing really :o

It's in Wylde Green, Birmingham area I believe.

I get to Worcester quite a bit, Wylde Green is a fair way from there, so in the short term I am not your man. Sorry.:o

As I said though you may get lucky with another forum member.

Cheers - no probs, it was a kind thought nonetheless :)

Hi Derek,

I thought I had checked them the other day - looks promising at first (£8.99+ VAT), but when you go through the full quote, they come out with a higher price due to the 'weight/volume/length' surcharge. (~£20-25 with no damage cover).

I think when I checked before I must have entered ever so slightly different dimensions because they came back with a price of about £50!

I'll have a further play and see if I can find another company that will take it more economically.

Cheers,

Will

Right - sussed it.

Over 120cm it jumps up by a large amount.

Ie, 120 x 60 x 20, 7kg = £6.79 + VAT (£7.81), no extra charges.

But 121 x 60 x 20 = £8.99 + VAT + fuel surcharge + length surcharge = £22.20.

I think for such a small approximate measurement (10cm in overall length), I might take a chance and see how it goes :o

It's not as though it's the full maximum volume, nor is it those exact dimensions ove the entire shape of the item.

Many years ago I remember hearing about a story where snooker players were charged for taking their cues on to public buses, as they were taller than the allowed height. So they started to make slightly wider cases, so the cue could be put in at an angle to reduce the overall height. (this might be folk law). Anyway, what I'm getting at is that it sounds like you need to find a wider box that is also under 120mm height and position the wings in at an angle to make them fit.

Interparcel quote: 10kgs, 150 x 25 x 60 (cms) by UPS delivered in 1-2 days is £8.81 + VAT.

Thanks Neil - yep I've already used them in the end :)

Should be picked up tomorrow
