My W124 500E #2 - I'm returning to the fold

500E are you in Dubai? I'm living nearby for the time being. :)

adile220, I've just sold the W210 E55 but I do have 2 E500 Limited's. Usually I use my phone for browsing but I'm not sure if anyone can recommend a good app for hosting photos so I can link them here? :)

I'm off to Dubai next week and the wood/ leather sportline steering wheel is on the top of my hunting list :D
Can't wait to spend a full day in scrapyards looking for bits for my car:bannana:

I am - give me a shout if you have free time. I've PM'd you my number.

I think I will go OEM on this part. I suppose I will go with the later LCA's for the 1993-95 E500, these will allow bigger brake setups in the future. First off, need to determine whether the ball joint is actually at fault but after reading online it seems to be the culprit.

The late febi LCA's seem to be different over in USA. I bought them as needed for 334mm brakes and they seem ok. The ball joint feels solid and the boot is soft black rubber not that transparent crap that pops off easily as in the video from 500Eboard.

For third of the price of oem I'll se how they last.

I found out the earlier LCA's have seperate ball joints, so have sourced a pair, Lemforder brand, will get them fitted soon.

Hello all - back in London now so getting to grips with the Merc. I've been driving it for the last few days and generally getting a proper feel for it. I'd like to do work on the interior (mainly cleaning) but also removing the Japanese audio system and various other radars etc which have been wired in. Luckily it all looks like its removable without any nasty holes etc. The drivers door card and the centre console is also peeling so that needs work. That will probably have to wait a few months for a nicer day where I can also wet vac the carpet :)

I arrived home to a filthy car with a flat tyre. So I got the AMG's taken off as they are buckled and the Lorinsers rebalanced and fitted again. The ride is a little harsh as they're 19's but i'm beginning to warm to the look of them - I guess they look different. I may now sell the AMGs. Plus point these wheels also have a nice set of Yokohama tyres in good condition.

I did give the car a quick clean over the weekend. Unfortunatly it started raining as soon as I parked up...

Here are a few parts i've accumulated for it. I also just spent nearly £900 at MB getting parts I needed for the car. Quite a few parts need to come from Germany so get photos once everything is in.

Also replaced the air filters with ITG lifetime units and the ignition leads with Beru parts:

That's it for now folks. I have to get a few mechnical bits done over the next few weeks, things like all the fluids, brakes all replaced etc before enjoying it fully. I will have it booked into an MB specialist once all the parts arrive so the work can begin.

Cheers

Bill

Super! Can I suggest that in my opinion, a U.K. spec number plate will look better aesthetically.

I meant on your rear but realised your boot lid only allows for a square size? Surprised because mine are also ex Japan but have a larger recess for rear plate. :confused

Your bootlid was changed maybe

It's legal in the UK to run Japanese sized plates with smaller lettering on cars that have been imported from Japan. Do it and it'll look a lot neater than the current offering I daresay!

Thanks Miguel, acknowledge you for that.

Having lived in Tokyo and owning Japanese imports, I'm well versed with that. However, in my opinion I think a Euro OEM spec number plate would look better. It's purely derived from my contextual view of what is aesthetically pleasing. Everyone differs.

Another curiousity about this car is that it's not usual to see Japanese specification boot lid. Which further leads me to believe what d w124 says, that it may well have been subject to change.

Again, thanks Miguel, I got it. :)

Sorry for any confusion. I realise you understood from the off.
Although I quoted you, my reply was really directed at Bilal, the owner of this car.

Thanks for the comments gents - I really do dislike the current number plate setup but i've literally had no time to get it sorted.

Miguel - i'm not sure what setup you're suggesting - any photos? I have the current plates printed but i've not even got around to assigning my private plate to the car yet. All online now so will do shortly but hopefully it'll look much neater with these on (plus LED bulbs):

Yes, I have the smaller recess. My car is an original Japan supplied car, not a German car then subsequently sold in Japan. I also don't have the S/W gearbox switch and I have the VIN sticker in the inner sill of the drivers door.

Those alloy pedals you got from MB, are they correct for a W124?

They look identicle to the ones i have in my W210 E55 (and look darn nice too), have always thought about doing something with the ones in my W124 Cabriolet, but didnt think it would look OEM or original.....

How exactly will these fit? drilling holes over the current rubber ones or removal of the original rubber and replacing with these?

Tia Dee

PS: I did note the 170 part number....

Hi Bilal,

Here's a couple of pics of another E500 recently sold to a customer. It'll have UK plates sized in the same dimensions when it arrives to UK. I can measure and let you know what size required if you want? Lettering can legally also be smaller, same size as some motorbikes, I believe - I don't keep pics of UK no plates we fit to cars though.

Tia Dee, perhaps I can answer your question. These pedal covers are a direct replacement for the originals on a W124. No drilling required and they fit perfectly, like OEM.
I have them on my 300D too.

Yes, this is correct, it's in the 2002 amendment to Display of Registration Marks document. They specify a load of dimensions to be adhered to but in essence it's the same as the motorcycle font.

I used to run a stumpy bike size plate on the front of my FD2 Civic.

That would be nice Miguel. P.s. that is a beautiful E500.

+1 on the pedals - should be a direct fit but have not actually fitted mine yet. I bought them from Germany off eBay and not MB themselves as I couldn't find the part numbers online.
