Thinking of getting a few bits and bobs cleaned up and sprayed. As I park on a road, the last thing I want is for the money to go down the drain by some idiot scratching the car when parking.

Was wondering if anyone has thought of anything to help with avoiding such things from happening?

Was thinking of somehow using rubber/foam pipe covering to do this. Maybe wrap some round a bit of bamboo and hang from bonnet or boot latch? But would that somehow make my car easier to break into?

Thoughts please...for my crazy idea!:thumb:

Just park as far away from other cars as possible!

Been to his place and is very hard to find parking, let alone space to spare

1) Have you got time to fit it every time you leave your car near other cars?
2) Would you feel embarassed fitting it? I know I would!
3) Will it encourage toe rags to key/kick your car?!
4) Will it get ripped to bits plus damage car during theft attempts?

If my car was dirty I wouldn't stick that on the side, it would scratch the paintwork.

It would probably encourage some little toe rag to try and hit it as hard as they could to see what happened and probably end up putting a dirty great dent in the door!

It's not so much toe-rags, rather Mum's in "chelsea tractors" that I have issues with. It's a nice area so there are many nice cars, however there seems to be a lack of care with regard to some.

It's not as if it is a usual occurance, but it can happen. Also I don't have the luxury of always finding a decent space, I just have to find whatever is available.

As for that item, I'm only really concerned about my bumpers.

I used to have a "Chelsea Tractor" (Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8) They're the best cars for not ever receiving a car park ding! Simply put the suspension in "off road" mode and it raises it so high that other car doors just hit the runner boards!

I'm was always considerate when opening my door though, but I can imagine WAG types wouldn't give two monkeys!

I did this on Sunday when visiting the local B&Q. I parked right across the car park (much to Mrs WN's annoyance!) and not another car within 50yds.

Got back with a bag of compost only to see a driving school car parked behind me!! So close I could only just open the tailgate. No other cars nearby, just him and me

Merc's are magnets for other cars .... :wallbash:

I'm getting a vision now. Of a roof rack. You stop, get out of the car and press a button. As if by magic a fan starts. out comes an inflatable garage to cover the whole car.

Back you come. Press another button. Compressor goes into reverse. Inflatable garage fold back in on the roof.

Should I apply for a patent:D

Just like the steel versions fitted to secure diggers overnight!
I looked at the cage on one the other day and wondered how long it will be before our cars will need the same.

Parking sensors...

...not for your own car, but for everyone else!

Just make them mandatory for anyone driving/parking in London :D

Not if he lives anywhere close to a university or college!!
Removing half of them from the roof every morning and finding the other half in a trail all the way to the halls of residence....What a way to start a day!!

Or make yours such that when parked they make the horn howl when someone else (with or without parking sensors) gets too close??!!!

The most effective thing would probably be a steel container of the type used on cargo ships . Buy one , keep it on your street and park inside it , locking it securely whenever you leave your car inside .

Someone could make a fortune in certain areas by starting up a valet parking scheme : phone ahead to have valet waiting to take your car to place of safety ( he can put his folding scooter in your boot ) ; phone again when you need the car back , washed , fuelled and valeted .

Move out of N london, that should do it.:thumb:

Not a bad idea, so long as it wasn't to anywhere like Southampton :D

Ha! I actually very much like where I live and the road I live on. But none of the houses have driveways. The result are very nice cars parked on the road, such as gorgeous early 90's Porsche 911 Turbo, Aston Martin DB9, and Merc SL 500...

The traffic cone idea actually isn't too bad.
