C350 CDI
Hi

I've had my new C350 CDI for for a couple of weeks now and finding it great.

However, I wondered if the forum can help. The car was specced at the factory with Audio-20, 6 CD changer and DAB, but before delivery the dealer fitted the latest UMI to provide iPod connection and Sat Nav.

Now I assume to select DAB I just click the Radio button through the bands until it hits DAB, but unfortunately on this page it says 'Device Unavailable'.

I have spoken to the dealership and they are looking into it. But can anyone suggest if I should need to do something special because of the UMI? Or has the dealer mis-programmed the system during UMI installation.

Any useful comments appreciated!

Hi, great car, great engine. Definately prefer this to the c350 Petrol. The torque figures are incredible. I can only salivate as to what a remap woud achieve!!! (When warranty runs out ofcourse):D
From my experience of reading similar stuff and being interested in a W204 for our family, I think, so long as the DAB module existed in the first place, the firmware they uploaded when they did the UMI retrofit did not include the necessary coding for the DAB function to be active again.
Just make sure they get the right file this time, it may all be fine as it is and just need enabling with DAS/STAR. One of the tech's on here will have a more credible answer, so just wait, but hopefully should be close to what I have said.

Thanks Jon

I'm have been guessing that it's a problem with the programming post UMI install. I'll get it to the dealer to take a look.

As you say, the torque is awesome, especially compared to my last car, an RX-8, which is famed for it's lack of it!

Although Im trying to take it easy until I reach 1000 miles, i'm not finding it easy!

UMI install does not involve coding the radio, just the cluster to enable the navigation menu in the cluster (I hope they did that, its in instrument_cluster->control-unit-adaptations->customer-settings (from distant memory ...))

What they probably forgot to do was to move the fibre optic connection from the car's wiring loom to the new connector that goes into the back of the head unit. I.e head unit no longer connected to fibre optic bus, so it can't see the DAB tuner

Just take it back and tell them the above !

Hi Richard

Thanks for the info. I'll take it back and get them to sort it out. I guess I'd hoped MB dealers might be a cut above the average and know this sort of stuff...

At least they got the SatNav working (which is superb!).

BTW what are you doing helping people like me at this time on a Friday night? Is your work never done?

It was the optical cable...

I thought I'd just close this thread off as I found time to get the car back to the dealership for them to fix it this week. The problem, as Richard suggested, was with the fibre optic MOST bus connection and all is now resolved.

BTW if anyone has any reservations about the UMI kit, I can highly recommend it. The satnav is great with full postcode lookup and TMC alerts and the IPod integration works a treat.

For me The only serious shortcoming of the setup compared to the COMMAND system is lack of full Bluetooth phone contacts and call register synchronisation. I had this on my old £100 Parrot kit so it's a bit cheap the MB don't provide it as standard. Because my iPhone won't send BT contacts, I've had to sync with my laptop, export to a Vcard file and send from there. If anyone wants the gory details, please let me know!

Thanks for all the previous comments.
