I'm toying with the idea of upgrading my Pioneer AVIC-X1 with a DAB tuner - is DAB any good in cars at the moment - it there sufficient coverage. I listen to 5-Live most of the time and a gain in clarity over the AM signal would be great!

Thanks

Have a look on Pure's web site they have a postcode thing to say how good the signal is in your area. The REVO system looks good and is an addition to your existing system.

varies a lot... 5 miles from me is chesham - i cant even get fm there, let alone dab... yet here its fine...

look at the dab reception maps on the web for your area..

The prob with DAB in cars is as you drive around the signal gains and fades so unless you get a unit that switches between FM and DAB then you're prob going to end up pretty huffy with it. Unless you mainly frequent a decent urban conurbation when you'll prob be OK.

Mine used to fade away when I hit the sticks but would come back on when I hit home

Having said that - I do love DAB. Have two radios at home ;) Have the DAB in Edna now but not connected to a digi aerial yet as there isn't an internal one that meets my asthetic standards and I refuse to have holes drilled into Edna :D

Thanks Pammy - the unit I'm thinking of does switch between DAB and FM - trouble is I'm a FiveLive Freak and whilst they're on DAB they're not on FM!

tell me - my hub's is a five dead(as I call it) freak, drives me nutts when I get back in my car and he's retuned the bloody radio

iirc - if you're on a DAB station that doesn't exist on FM you just get nothing when you go out of the signal zone. The DAB goes faint and squishy then just comes back when you are back in signal area.
