Hi all

Just after some opinions. And you guys usually nail things on the head :)

I recently bought a second hand engine. The company have been pretty good in sending paperwork etc and got the engine and no major things for me to be concerned about so far

However, is there a data protection issue in them them sending me the online MOT data/print-out showing the mileage of the engine from the donor car?

Many kind thanks in advance :)

Sometimes low mileage used engines aren't as low mileage as they should be...

Nice to see you are online. Can you respond to my email(s), last one dated 9th March? Subject is parts query.......

I'm always very suspicious of anyone hiding behind the data protection act.
In this case, it sounds like ******** to avoid telling you something they don't want you to know.
The DPA is about protecting individuals, not companies or engines. The MOT number or V5c reference does not constitute information that would allow an individual to be identified, which is what the DPA protects against.

If they don't provide the means to check the history, and thus their claim that the mileage is low, you should send the engine back and pursue them for a refund.

Hi all many thanks for the input. Bob, where do I find emails sent to me please?

Kind regards

Hi,
This my area of expertise, Data Protection Act only applies to living persons not mechanical engines. There is no issue with sharing data about engines, MoT etc as long as you have legitimate reasons.
I hope this helps.

I think bob6600 was referring to nick mercedes' post, not to yours.....

Nothing to say, shipped what you asked for when you asked for it.

I remember asking for a full loom to which you agreed and receiving the ends which had been cut off. Also an axle sensor missing and two transducers. So you shipped about half the items agreed. I don't want to ruin this thread so if you could reply to my email it would help. I want this sorted one way or the other. Thanks.

Nobody said anything about the complete loom, taking a full loom out of a car is mission impossible - as would be trying to fit it to another one. There is only one axle sensor, the photo you sent me from german ebay of the supposed missing one was the same front one that I sent you, and I sent you the EGR with all its gubbins as requiested, so I shipped what you asked form when you asked for it.

Apologies to the OP but as I am only getting a response here I shall have to respond here.

Nick, from your email

> Price is £xxx (inc shipping) for the following parts - EGR valve Mixing
> chamber complete, 2 transducers, axle sensors x 2, wiring and 2 x range
> adjusters from headlights

It wasn't the full vehicle loom, I know this would be impossible unless the vehicle was stripped. It was the xenon lighting loom which goes between the front headlamps and the the axle sensors, the one you supplied the ends from. The german ebay link was for picture purposes only, the sensors are the same but mount differently iirc, it was to explain which part I was referring to. You must have stripped many of these Nick, you know there are two, one at the front and one at the back. The EGR was the complete mixing chamber yes, but the transducers (asked for seperately) were not. I even sent the part numbers and after a couple of weeks you said to expect a parcel that week but nothing.
