Daytime Running Lights fitted

Hi There thefast1. No, my Mercedes is basic and pretty standard. I have finished fitting my Drl`s, they are different to say the least so I will post some pictures when I can borrow my wife`s camera.:D

Hi Hope this helps:thumb:

Regards John

I just fitted these, removed my old AMG spots and fitted these with 4300k xenon builbs with projection lense and CCFL drl, not sure I like them now, a bit beemer I think.

The reason I asked if you had Xenons is that I had the straight strip type DRL prviously (aftermarket) and when connected to the cars headlights via lights off\dimming unit that I found on ebay I had trouble with the feed wire when taped into headlight wire, as they were Xenons the current seem to fluctuate up and down so instead of the LED drl's switching off when the headlights came on they would flicker, they initialy went off when the headlights came on when the car was stationary but would flicker once on the move, didn't notice for a while untill some one pointed it out to me,
I also had issues with the side lights as I was using LED wedge type lamps in there also so wondered if you had the same issue while the car was moving and the alternator was supplying the current rather than the batt.

Hi there. I have checked and mine just go to half the brightness when I switch the main lights on. I believe I do not have the same problem because I do not have Xenons which use a ballast I think. Must put some pictures up when I get time because I made some polished stainless channel with holes in and fixed the Led strips inside then glued to the plastic bumper. They will be easy to remove or replace using fishing line to cut off leaving no visible marks. I just can`t make up my mind if I like them as my wife has said they look a little bling. :dk: By the way I love the look of your front grill but these are a little pricy to fit on mine at the moment, so I will have to save my pocket money up.

OK. Just used the camera to take a couple of pictures. The images are in my album (Mercedes Benz S Class 320 Cdi 2007) :bannana:

If you are in the UK and you have fitted non standard day time running lights as of 2014 your car will fail its MOT with them attached

John that is quite subtle and personally I think it looks good.

Hi There. I checked with my MOT station before fitting and as long as dimensions are within the guide lines and they either switch off or dim when main lights are activated they are happy. Still I have made them easily removable but It could be bad news for the thousands of drivers and manufacturers of DRL`s if you are correct.
Regards JC

I also understand that to be the case. They will check they either dim or switch off when main beam is on and they are in the right location.

Where did you get them?

Thanks.

Now I purchased the Led strips off E-bay and made the stainless channel myself folding some 19mm side strips, folding along the edges to make channel then bending a curve on the ends and drilling slots to align with the lights, with a final mirror polish. The waterproof rubber Led strips sit inside the channel with the power leads running into the back of the number plate and up into the engine area. :thumb:

An ebay listing, came from china, similar to this listing, 151033057527

If they are an MOT failure I will just disconect them before the car goes for Test, do you know if the fog lights fail the MOT if the beam was not aligned correctly? or if they are fitted dothey need to work to pass the MOT?

Hey Tony, I was actually going to install them the other way around however when I saw them factory fitted on a 2011 Mercedes the same way as mine are fitted I thought fitting them the other way around would entice people to say "You've fitted them the wrong way round" so I opted to go with the norm.

Steve...

I always thought the "hockey sticks" were fitted upside down by MB as well.

How

I have just fitted some DRLs to my S320 which I purchased off ebay and they are in my opinion brilliant. The Item number is :200780869963 and they were only £15 with x8 super bright LEDs in each unit.

Steve...

Hi Steve , I have the same car and I want to fit DRL to it as you know that no battery on front just want know how did you wire your DRL
Many thanks

From what I recall, if a light is fitted, it has to work or its an MOT fail. This is a recollection from years ago when lots of external add on rear foglights were fitted.

Hi I have just ordered a set including a dimmer relay and am hoping to fit later in the week on my slk350 this post has been great. I will try to post pictures

I ordered a set, they work fine and look good IMO- even better they came with a free C250 Coupe attached.....

I agree with Dieselman they are to far in and need to go out a bit well done though. I would like some on my w211 but have never found the right lamp/shape or position I would be happy with yet. If anyone has them on a w211 I would love to see a photo. :)
