Dealer swaps my wheels or something

Are you sure that ANY of the work you commissioned was actually done on YOUR car, and not the one parked next to it?
LOL my wife's Audi went into the garage for the oil pressure switch to be replaced, they got it mixed up with another car and fitted a new cambelt and water pump instead.

Brings to mind the comments on another thread about making the NHS private :D

Steve, hope you get it sorted, these things are irritating and always seem to take a long time to process..

While I agree with the comments about the mix up being unacceptable , and that Steve ought to be put back in the position he previously was in , with matching tyres , I can only agree up to a point about the wheel .

Whilst it is true that the history of this 'new' wheel is unknown - it must be said , to be fair , that the same is also true of the other wheels ( including Steve's wheel which is now on someone else's car ) , after all - Steve only bought the car recently and has no more knowledge of the wheels before his ownership than he does of the one he has just 'acquired' .

Hi - agree with the logic here - but as far as Steve's conversation goes with the garage it's a different matter - just suggesting some ammunition he could use.

I'd also suggest removing the wheel and checking it against previous referb, cracks, warping etc. also is the tyre balanced correctly? who knows.

its not the tyre and wheel you took it in there with. simple as. they need to either give your original one back pronto (and confess to that owner who presumably could be bombing around on your tyre as we speak) or fit a new tyre and new alloy. who knows how the other driver is treating your tyre...

i'd also double check (look for evidence of recent work/finger prints/shiney bolts etc) around where you asked them to do work. maybe they did it on the other car by mistake..

good luck Steve!

p.s. don't let them bribe you with any food, however tempting that will be to you..... or the offer to wash your car...:D

Not wishing to defend anyone here, but when wheels are taken off of a car to carry out works they are not normally taken away from the car. Imagine if tha same looking wheel with a different offset was put on the wrong car, there could be all sorts of problems. I am inclined to think the wrong tyre was fitted by the tyreshop and overlooked by you, respectfully. I inspect my tyres weekly, but rarely, if ever, do I look at the tyre manufacturers name in full, I am normally looking for tread depth, carcks in the tyre wall etc etc

I have to say, if this was me, I just know that it would end up being me getting it wrong with egg on my face.....

Having said that, I have read enough posts from you that I suspect that you know your car rather well by now. As a minimum I do think the dealer should be 'retrieving' your wheel, and grovelling a great deal.

I am impressed at your patience, I would be on the phone to MB UK by now. I am sure that the mechanic has a mobile phone, especially if he is on a work related training course rather than a holiday.

Steve

We talked about this the other night and you did the decent thing and alerted the dealership of the error. They have done nothing to make you happy or accept this mistake.

Time to get this closed.

Just walk in and ask for the Dealer Principal - tell them nobody else will be suitable.

If met with a corporate firewall, pull out your telephone and call Milton Keynes from where you stand and tell them you are in the dealership with a serious problem and are getting messed around. That will get the DP out to speak with you.

Remember - it's THEIR problem with YOUR property. Negligence it the key aspect.

Remain calm, explain to the DP why you came back and tell him how upset you are having been treated the way you have been so far and that you are losing faith with the dealership. If no resolve, threaten to sue them.

can you see/zoom in on any of the photos you have of your car to see what tyres were fitted?

I know Steve had matching tyres as he came to mine the day that he drove North with it and we looked at them. I remember slagging him for the cheap Chinese rears :)

Factor in that he washed it recently and even dressed the tyres for the Biggar meet.

The dealer has fooked up here.

I'd make them squirm. Of that, I have no doubt :D

*** you have been wronged and you seem to be a reasonable man

This is shocking
they have stolen/misplaced and used your property
they are incompetent
you have a very strong position
seek extremely large compensation or you will take the matter further
you might be surprised at the (positive)outcome
someones job will be on the line
-get stuck in sir
lay it on the line
focus on the negative points
dont ease up
...you might enjoy this!
Good Luck

I m thinking ...4 brand new wheels and tyres...

You have my sincere sympathy Steve.
If it was my car I would follow LTD`s advice above, which I consider to be
both solid and effective.

I'm with this too. They should not get away with this incompetance.
You take the care to match tyres on the same axle and they don't care at all.
I would be furious and would demand they either recover my original wheel/tyre or replace both front tyres with 2 new matching tyres, carrying out a safety check on the rims at the same time.

I have done. IMHO I feel its unfair for me to ask them for 2 new tyres for a matching axle, and this is the simple fair option for me, and their other customer.

I will go in next Saturday with the car, and if they do not offer me anything at all, (like the solution above or maybe 20% off tyres when I change them) I will complain to MB HQ and also MB Glasgow's own head office.

What's unfair Steve. I once got a free seevce form a main dealer because I complained when they put on two mudflaps they found in the back of my car. I had taken them off because they constantly grounded and were thus annoying.

When they put then on they drilled into the plastic bumper...free service.

COMPLAIN OUT LOUD.

Steve

Would you want me arguing your case to you if you were Dealer Principal ?

Didn't think so ........ You know what to do.

Renaut12ts - They were trying to be helpful. They misread the situation. You complained and got a free service but still have holes in your bumper? Surely a new / repaired bumper would have been the correct recompense?
