Dealer swaps my wheels or something

I was very ****** off whilst registering my W211 onto Spanish plates; as part of the process you need to have a Spanish MOT, and they discovered that the front tyres were the incorrect size- so I had to buy two new fronts which are not cheap.

Someone before me, had stuck tyres for the he E270 or E220 on the front. I mean, it must be an MOT failiure in Britain as well- so it was a preety brainless, crafty thing to do to save a few quid.

I´ve kept the old tyres as they were in good condition- might swap them back on at some stage.

Renaut12ts - They were trying to be helpful. They misread the situation. You complained and got a free service but still have holes in your bumper? Surely a new / repaired bumper would have been the correct recompense?

It was 10 years ago...perhaps I was a little less laid back then.:D

Sorry for the lack of absence,

LTD tried to call you today but phone wrung out. I just phoned the dealer and was going to give you an update and to sound off.

I explained nicely to them that I raised the issue with them the other day and have had nothing from them. The service lady told me that there was nothing they could do until the lad who worked on my car came back from his holiday. I said upon further thought I really was not happy with the outcome of my visit on Wednesday, and the situation I am in.

I politely informed her this was rubbish regarding having to wait until the mechanic came back from his holiday. I asked her whether they have tracked down or done any work on another 211 sport that was in the two days my car was with them. She couldn't provide an answer. In other words, they've done nothing to try and get my wheel back, or come up with a solution for me.

She then tried to say that the wheel my car had swapped may not have been taken off!! I asked how they'd measure a brake bad without taking that wheel off or giving a full health check. I said either they didn't do the healthcheck on my car, which they said they did, so have lied to me that way, and billed me for work not done, or that they are lying about the wheel that came off.

I explained that although the tyre is ok that was swapped, it will wear quicker and I have no idea about the alloy wheel that is on my car. It would be cracked, a replica wheel (some have Classics/AG's etc and want sport wheels) and not therefore suitable as an approved used car that was sold to me 3 months earlier and a risk to my safety if it buckles, the tread mismatch causes a risk etc. I also said that I am substancially out of pocket if that wheel is in not good condition. I know people have a giggle on here about my car being grubby, but its in good condition and maintained regardless of cost.

I therefore asked, that if they do not get my wheel and tyre back, I want a new alloy wheel, 2 new efficient grip tyres (not one as I would have a tread imbalance) and nothing less will do.

I will see the service desk manager on Monday, and if this is not agreed too, I will have the 3 following options:

1. Small claims court
2. Escalate to MB UK
3. Escalate to Stratstone.

I feel very sad as the lady said to me we need to see the car in case you are making this up. I have been insulted by these people who I have given my hard earned cash too, my trust to look after my car, and my pride and joy car for them to work on, and this is the thanks I get. I have bought a car from them before and to have that said to me is not very nice.

^ Am annoyed for you and Don't get annoyed !!!

I am beyond annoyed, incredibly disheartened about such an organisation.

I will remain "on the fence" until I see the service manager, but if that does not go well, I will have to escalate this, and also make the effort to go to a dealer for servicing not so near, as I have no faith in them right now, and I do not think they want me for a customer.

In the industry I work in, we do not treat our customers so disdainfully. Its an unknown concept for me to make out a customer to be a liar.

Sadly, this is typical Stratstone/Pendragon. In the trade, this company has a pretty bad name for customer service.

I wouldn't wait to be insulted further Steve, just go straight to MB MK - they will not be unfamiliar with complaints concerning Stratstone dealerships...

In effect this is the same response I got when I reported the faulty (new) flasher unit. 'We'll need to get your car in to check cos we don't believe you'. Standard dealer practice probably.

Where is the old saying 'the customer is always right'....

So why should you have to prove you have a different wheel.

Sorry I would have escalated this already, as you first stated you have given the EVERY oportunity to get it right. They have done nothing.... waiting for the mechanic to come back of his holidays??? what's he going to do, put his hand in his own pocket and sort you wheel / tyres out....Nope.

The dealer should have contacted the other 'sport' owner arranged a swap and offered you both some sort of compensation for trouble caused. It could have been sorted so easily.....everyone makes mistakes. It how its dealt with now.... Shocking.

I do agree you should print this out with the number of views etc post to dealer manager ... Its pathetic how they have treated you.

Steve,

I've just been looking at the (12 megapixel) photos I took at the last GTG - if I zoom and crop some of the pics of your car, you can tell from the tread pattern that both front tyres are the same. They aren't ideal shots, but might help. PM me with your email and I'll send you the hi res versions.

And its awkward for me, I don't start work until 12 and work till 8pm, so its more time out my day to deal with this.

Its very inconvenient. Fair enough if they found my wheel and tyre by all means have me bring the car in, but its hassle and more hassle, I will need to get something back for this.

If this is the same Stratstone network that have Lotus dealerships then I can confirm their poor business practises. Blatant lying was their insult to me.

Not wishing to defend anyone here, but when wheels are taken off of a car to carry out works they are not normally taken away from the car. Imagine if tha same looking wheel with a different offset was put on the wrong car, there could be all sorts of problems. I am inclined to think the wrong tyre was fitted by the tyreshop and overlooked by you, respectfully. I inspect my tyres weekly, but rarely, if ever, do I look at the tyre manufacturers name in full, I am normally looking for tread depth, carcks in the tyre wall etc etc

can you see/zoom in on any of the photos you have of your car to see what tyres were fitted?

Please see post 53, I have a heap of pics of the car from last month detailed enough to see the tread/

Steve

Have a read at my suggestion again ..............

Don't p*ss about any more with these idiots.
Put it in writing. Copy to dealer & copy to mb uk & copy to main dealers head office.
Demand your wheel & tyre back + compensation for your inconvenience.
If they can't find your wheel then you need a new matching wheel, 2 new tyres & compensation for the inconvenience.
