Dealer swaps my wheels or something

Have you checked the date stamp on the wheels yet? It might help clarify matters? Who actually supplied the replacement tyre which you fear might have been lost ? There is also a date stamp on the tyre sidewall to indicate when it was made [ week and year]. Reputable tyre companies normally fit tyres less than 6 months old. This might help to pin down the origin of the remaining "Good Year efficient grip" tyre--I'm not sure if you "lost " the original or replacement [post puncture] "Good Year efficient grip"?

You have to admit the first pic from D18 #53 looks nothing like an 'Efficient' as per the Camskill pic in Whitenemesis post #60 although there are still slight discrepancies from an Eagle F1. I'm confused by the timeline. Was Biggar before you put the car in for service?

If that first photo was taken before the service, you didn't have an EfficientGrip on that front nearside wheel. I have EfficientGrip 225/45 17s on my Alfa (fantastic tyres btw) and they have a V shaped tread on the outer edge, not a continuous "curve" like that first photo.

Think you probably assumed it was an effecient grip as it was also a Goodyear tyre like the other side. The tread in the picture matches an Eagle F1 - clearly seen by the tread pattern on the outside edge of the tyre.

Think you owe the dealer an apology.

I think I agree with npuk but it depends on whether the pic by Lawrence was taken before or after the service. Presumeably it was at Biggar cos of the blae carpark?

Steve,
I've just been looking at the (12 megapixel) photos I took at the last GTG

D-18 who posted them up says pics were taken at the last GTG.

D-18's pics definately show different tyres..

Wow cant believe this thread! CSI MBCLUB.

Steve

Are you 100% sure that the tyre you replaced after the puncture wasn't changed for an F1 ?

I think this is the most likely explanation - Druk mentioned this too. TBH when I first looked at the photos, I thought the tread patterns on both wheels were identical. Having looked at the images posted by Whitenemesis and compared them more closely with mine, the 'offending' wheel does look like it had an F1 fitted.

It was taken well before the service, and after the puncture, and yes, I have the receipt to PROVE that the replacement tyre was an efficient grip tyre. Not an Eagle F1.

Mystery solved then Steve?

No, I had two matching tyres on that car, I am sure of it, and the puncture was on passanger side and I have receipt for that tyre.

Receipt doesnt really prove anything they could have had still fitted the wrong tyre after the puncture. The picture proves more and the tyre in the picture isnt an Efficient Grip?

Actually it does, I bought the efficient grip tyre and thats what was fitted.

It also gets better.

I have gone through the paperwork for my service healthcheck.

The service invoice has the milliage as 55882 and the heathcheck report has my milliage as 49739 miles (the report which deemed my car to need a front ball joint). Clearly they got my car mixed up with someone elses.

Evidence enough my car was mixed up with someone elses, and that they've messed up.

Who fitted the tyre Steve? Remember what's on the receipt may not be what was actually fitted? :wallbash:The tyre tread patterns are fairly similar --could just be a simple mistake by the fitter, or an act of deception/omission by the tyre supplier--of the type of thinking [ they're black, they're round, they're Goodyears, what more do you want? ] Not trying to disagree with what you are saying Steve just looking for an explanation?;)

Quickfit. I do remember the tyre being the same.

The healthcheck milliage and my own cars milliage discrepancy does look odd though. Its for someone elses car, VIN?reg etc matches, but the miles sure do not.

So have they billed me for a ball joint I didnt need to change.

I need to see them and get answers as as far as I am concerned, the "healthcheck" report is not for my car, and as I commisioned work off that back of that, they owe me money.

Well if the photo put up was taken before the car went in for the work, it would sort of suggest the F1 tyre was on the NSF wheel at that time?

It does seem highly coincidental that the swapped wheel has the 'correct' tread depth as well.

Does you receipt from the tyre fitters state the tyre fitted?

Notwithstanding all of the above the tyre pictured by Lawrence at the Tinto Hotel car park is a Goodyear Eagle. Which was before the service. So whatever happened to your 'Efficient' it wasn't done by Mercedes.

Just so's I didn't make a nit of myself saying the wrong thing I asked D18 for a copy of the hi-res pic. If you use the + to zoom in on the tread it is deffo not an Efficient. No bout adout it.

Sorry.
