I'm having an "A" service at a Mercedes dealership but have chosen to supply the oil myself, which they are happy with.
But I've been asked to supply a specific brand and type.

Surely I can choose the brand and typ as long as the oil meets Merc specs (229.1)??

PS I'm going for Castrol GTD magnatec.

ask DC UK?

ASK WHAT TYPE THEY HAVE IN THE 50 GALLON DRUM IN THE WORKSHOP. What type/specification is a reasonable request but brand seems a bit picky as long as you use a merc recognised manufacturer. DCUK should be able to tell you if your Castrol GTD MAGNATEC is OK.

Hi

I think our local dealer uses Castrol SLX, if i was supplying the dealer with oil i would go for a fully synthetic oil, magnatec is not.

As long as it's got MB229.1 on the container then I don't see how they could object? There probably some anti-competition law that would make such action illegal?

I'm taking mine in next week and supplying my own oil - Motul MB specific MB229.5. The only thing the dealer asked was if it was 0W30? In fact it's 5W30, but the handbook suggests that practically any grade could be used - the W number only being an issue in really cold climates.

hi., thanks for your reply, i should have been more specific, mobil super s, its a blend of syn and base oils but a good compromise and capable of perfoming up to the [assyst] time [milage] parameters...
