Hi all

Sad to see my uncles 230ce has been damaged beyond repair.

It was parked on his drive, and a car lost control and slammed into it.

Needless to say it will not be repaired.

Hes trying to agree on a price from the insurance on it, then will likely sell it as scrap.

I really loved this car - it inspired me to buy and keep mine.

Sad times - had hoped to one day see it on the road in all its glory.

Another one bites the dust :(

Has it got heated seats and are they electric memory by any chance...??

So sad , I can fully empathise , having suffered almost the same experience

W124 - check
Almandine Red - check
Mushroom Leather - check
written off on my driveway - check

The car which hit mine was uninsured , but I made more than double from breaking my car myself than the paltry sum my insurer was offering . Hope your uncle fares better .

Total shame.

Agreed - had hoped my uncle would pass it onto his son, who could then share my love for these cars.

This was my grandfather's car originally - many fond memories of being chauffeured, trips up and down the country visiting family, etc.

Just hope mine doesn't end up the same way - a decent car with history is always hard to replace.

I am sorry to see this.

Seems like yours would be of the same 'cohort' as my uncles - his is also a 1990, and as you have spotted, same colour combination.

Mine is now the last in the family. In all honesty would have kept his over mine - although mine was also owned by my grandfather toward his latter years, this was the one we shared many fond memories in.

I dont think he will break it personally - too many memories. Likely sell as scrap once insurers have had their way.

RIP

That incident happened back in 2006 , although I hadn't had the car all that long , 18 months or so , it was a one owner car prior to me and had covered 430,000 miles with FMBSH , always serviced at MB Glasgow where it had originally been bought . Ironic that it had survived all those miles on the road , to be written off in the supposed safety of my drive .

I still have a hankering to get another S124 , to keep alongside my SL and 190 .

It certainly done well with 430k.

Im still amazed at how well these cars drive - even by modern standards.

Nothing quite as fulfilling as driving one of them - especially if you are headed on holiday.

Helps me unwind on the way.

190s are also nice - I kept the 124 to remind me of my grandfather really. Otherwise would have preferred the extra doors and size of the 190 - especially with my child.

Best

Adil

Looking through the photos - I do remember seeing some Sportline badges on this car.

Im not sure whether the 230ce came as a Sportline, but perhaps worth checking out.

Is there a way to find out if it is one?

If you put the VIN number into one of the online VIN decoders , it will tell you what suspension it left the factory with .

That is truely dreadful.

My SL is in the bodyshop right now, because someone drove into it when it was parked.

Thankfully in my case the damage was minor.

Cheers,
Robert

Did you want to check for me just in case Adil - even if it had heated seats this would be of interest.....

Hi

They are manually adjustable seats.

No heating either.

Mushroom leather though - if it is scrapped will either be taken by the insurers or sent to a yard.

If it is available for sale - will likely sell as is - don't have the time/heart to break it up im afraid.

Good to know it will be repaired to the same, if not better condition.

An SL is still quite valuable, so less risk of it being written off.

W124s on the other hand would likely be written off by the insurers for much smaller incidents.

Paranoia sets in - am taking mine to a busy area today and am now dreading parking on the road!
