Detailing - load of tosh

Well...i have to spread the goodwill at Christmas ...lol

And all you fools believe me.......

I`ve learnt being old ...only idiots surprise me about being surprised about others they don`t even know.
Never you mind these petrol using , bonnet licking , polish swigging , exhaust sniffing , fairly horrible Mercedes drivers.

Have a good 290 bhp xmas Keith.

Please tell me you were being deadly serious, and not being ironic.

OK, it's a fair cop, I did say it, but please don't dwell on it.

It's been swirling all round for a while, hopefully the fall out won't contaminate the thread.

The devil's in the detail..........................

Enjoyed that thread did we....everyone?

Can't beat a good wind up :D

I find cleaning my car very relaxing especially with a can of larger in hand as well.
You certainly got a few peeps going with the tosh cleaning :thumb:

I'm very keen to keep my cars as spotless as I can, two bucket method, microfibre towels, polish, wax and glaze etc, but I wouldn't call myself a detailer, just a bit obsessed!

So to all that have said it's not worth it as it'll only get dirty again, may I ask if you shave every day, as your beard will only grow again, similarly why do you mow your lawn?

(But see my sig!)

Or clean your kitchen, for that matter :D

Not knocking you for using a car wash one bit Keith, everyone has their preferences.

I will openly admit that washing a car at this time of year can be somewhat 'fresh' haha.

No circular swirls of scratches as the brushes go front to back.

The only thing I would say is that with swirl marks, the scratches are usually in straight lines. The reason they look swirly or like a cobweb is usually because the sunlight is hitting the surface and the light reflects from the middle.

It's a bit of a myth that swirl makes are due to washing/polishing/drying in a circular motion. Also swirls can be inflicted by drying as well as the washing. :thumb:

Myth.......my ar$e!

You are trying to teach a French Polisher here to suck eggs the wrong way....:rolleyes:

Was not sure about detailing but after having an expert do the job the result is a glass finish. One thing I do know is that I could not do it myself to this standard.
Before and after speaks for itself .... converted!

The bottom line is here. Keep your car clean, you scruffy sods ! Whichever method/routine/cost you prefer.
As far as `holding value, if you PX your car at a dealer, he only cares about the general condition, as they will `detail` it before it goes on the forecourt. If you want to stick it on Fleabay, then the sensible thing to do, is clean it/polish it thoroughly before taking photos, and do not use the car until people have come to view it. A very clean car will sell more so than a fairly clean one.
It isn't rocket science folks, enjoy them while you have them then prep them for selling...simples...

In the end I've decided on getting my car "detailed" with a glossy, protective coating. Booked in next Wednesday - straight from the dealer! - at Gleaming Car in Lincolnshire. An apt name, that!
