Diamond cut or not? Refurb time

My current AMG alloys do not have a single mark on them but sadly they are suffering from the usual corrosion issues that come with diamond cut alloys.

So the question is, do I go down the diamond cut route again which will mean the car is off the road for 3x days and costs £700. Plus there is no guarantee this won't happen again....

Or can I get a painted finish that looks as good? Half the price and a day job.

I have thought about pushing this under warranty as my car has been maintained and under MB warranty it's whole life, but they always find a way to wiggle out of it.

Car is a 2007 E63 AMG.

Can you post up some pics. of the corrosion , I also have diamond cut Alloys and have read about this issue, as of yet my Alloys seem to be corrosion free(Head touched at this point ) it seems to occur around bolt area , does the corrosion start as white worm ??

£700 for wheel refurb?!?!?!?!

Diamond cut wheels are madness, even if you like the look.
If like me, you dislike the look then it's a no brainer.

You should be looking at £85 a wheel. That is the price for lepsons who are one of the best refurbishing houses out there. A full strip down diamond cut refurb.
If you look after your wheels with regular cleaning - not harsh chemicals or pressure washing!!! And a wheel sealer you will stand a better chance. Also be careful with tools anyway near them! Wheel wrenches etc.
diamond cut wheels are fine if you can stop moisture getting in chips/scratches etc.

You could buy a set of aftermarket diamond cut with tyres for less than your refurb but personally I would have them painted all one colour, High power silver is a good one.

You can guarantee if you have them cut again they will corrode again.

These guys have refurbed 13 sets of alloys over the years for me. There quality is something I have never seen so if they state it takes 3x days to get the correct finish and costs £700 with vat I will take there word for it.

Who has quoted you that price? Prestige wheels are the best and I'm certain they charge less than £400, they also collect for free by courier.

Thewheelspecialist in fareham.

Don't really want to leave my car on axel stands which is no doubt why they are cheaper.

I should of made this clearer, I would be paying £535 for diamond cut or £335 for refurb.

£700 they are having a Giraffe I had 2 done at £70 a corner, but next time will get all 4 powder coated finished at £45 a corner. Thats for 18"

Perhaps it's a southern thing, phoned 5x desperate companies in Wiltshire and Dorset and they all charge the same.

Around the £500 mark.

Lepsons who are now platinum alloy wheel solutions in Swindon are 85 a corner for 19s

May need to add vat to that but around 400

I had Prestige do my wheels in 2009 and their service IMHO is the best.

I just drove to a local garage that was an agent for Prestige wheels and they checked them out before giving me a quote. The following week I drove back to the garage where my new wheels were waiting for the garage to do a swap with my old wheels. My old wheels got sent back to Prestige. I drove off with my car wearing new wheels.:bannana:

I had a set of diamond cut Ankaa's powdered after the lacquer failed. The powdered finish was easy to maintain and lasted for the remainder of the time I had the car, around 18 months.

I questioned whether powder would adhere to the diamond cut and they (The Wheel Specialists) said it would - and it did.
