Hi , is there any difference in spec to red diesel over white ,apart from the obvious colour diff

I ask because having just bought a GTI ed30 the previous owner said you must run it on BP ultimate fuel ,I realise this is petrol but i started to think is there any diff in diesel

TIA

be aware that the ministry now have roadside vans that can 'smell' red desil as you (sorry your friend:rolleyes:) drives past.

they work by seeing the colour differance of the smoke comming out of the back of the car.

if your(sorry your friends:rolleyes:) car is worth more than about 500 quid, they will take it off you (him)if they catch you(him) and the fine is what tax they think youve dodged, plus 50% for takin the pi$$, plus 50% for the 'fine'

to answer the question, no differance whatso ever.

And they can charge you tax for fuel that could of been used on the complete mileage of the car!

I use Red for our forklifts and plant equipment, and it seems the same, but I think the grade would be lower than standard Diesel?
Like has been said above - it’s really not worth trying to run Red, unless you are happy to take the gamble. I think in some cases, you can use it, and send a cheque to the Chancellor for the tax - but that may have just been when we had the fuel shortage.

I know people that have old style Diesels (non common rail) and they use veg oil ok - but again for me, I’d rather just use the Diesel from the pumps and drive a bit slower!
