I have this problem with my w203 220 cdi . The smell is not present if the heater fan is off but instantly comes when the fan is turned on.Do you have any idea where is this coming ...pls help

Most likely to be leaking injector seals.

Take the cover off the engine, and you will probably find a black goo around 1 or more injectors.

How much it would cost to fix that? Sometimes I have strange smell in my car as well...

Cheers

If it has the same bosch common rail tech as my old 330d, it maybe the rail itself that is leaking - sometimes the union joints go (sometimes can fix just by tightening).

BEWARE however - depending on your technology the high pressures involved can be dangerous! If they spring a leak at 3000psi, the resulting fine jet of diesel can cut straight through your fingers, so take care - i.e. don't poke around under the engine cover with the engine running without being very careful!

Had the same problem some time ago. Turned out to be a leaking fuel pipe to the left of the oil filter. Very difficult to see as there is a plate in front of two fuel pipe connections.

MB replaced the connections and pipes as well as coolant hoses as the leak allowed diesel to spray around the engine compartment. Seems this replacement of fuel pipes was fairly common on both C and E class.

Worth checking all fuel pipe connections and always best to get this addressed sooner rather than later.

Chris,

It costs more the longer you leave it.

The parts are about £5 per injector (crush washer/ stretch bolt), the time in extracting an injector that has welded itself in is the costly bit.

The longer it has been leaking, the harder the carbonised diesel becomes thus the injector doesn't want to come out.

I had the same problem changed every thing and did not solve the problem..The trouble is your air filter box is lose there is rubber gromits holding it in place there is 2 up the top and 2 at the bottom get them checked when i had mine done the smell went 4 good. So dont waste your money on expensive injectors It cost me £30 to have it fitted
