hi

my CLK has a burr walnut wood trim finish.... i have the chance to get a replacement bit of trim that is in birds eye maple. the colour of the wood seems the same but i was wondering about the pattern of grain

would this look out of place? comparision pics would be great, or a pic of birds eye maple.

cheers

here is a pic of burr walnut from my car:

Birds eye maple is a lot darker and has flecks of lighter colour. Nothing like the photo you posted.

see HERE for a better pic from my car.

the wood is quite dark (i think the camera's flash made it appear light in the pic)....

Birds Eye Maple is almost black (at least to my eye in my car). It's definitely different in colour to the walnut interior.

Yup, definately two very different colours. Birds eye is black, or very dark green in some light, where the Burr Walnut is much lighter.

I like that better than the CF trim they put in the C Class sport models, wonder why this never made it to the C Class? Reminds me what I used to have in my Volvo

I was thinking of ordering the W210 panels to cut to fit my W202 but decided against it when I saw how much they are, bit too much for a gamble ;)

The veneer it starts off as is described as "Slate Grey". Coat in up with a varnish and it becomes a very dark, almost black, grey.

if its supposed to be black, why does this look brown?

Don't know but I had birds eye maple in my CLK and burred walnut in both my S Classes - definitely very different in colour.

Birds Eye Maple is a wood with a particular pattern in it, so the natural state is sort of wood coloured: light brown!

But it gets stained different colours when turned into a veneer: Peach, Red, Blue and various shades of grey through to black.

The stuff I was talking about is made from a Dark Slate Grey veneer but it can be just about any colour.

Dear Guys, please do you think that same wood trim quality (i.e. burl walnut) utilized in our cheaper C Class (mine is a W202) is the same burl walnut quality fitted it the prestigious S Class?

In mine the upper surface coating is quite thin and some scratches is noticeble.

Thanks a lot for any input

Hi :)

thanks for everyone's advice. however i still bidded on the item in question (on ebay) and won it at quite a good price, so i thought i would risk it....

unfortuantly the seller is in Germany and he is not responding to my requests asking for postage costs to UK. he just hasnt replied to any of my emails. makes me a bit worried as he has also relisted the item + has neg feedback about the same item. he may be scamming me unless he has more of the same item to sell.
