I know the starter is on the opposite side of the bell housing, i have always believed that the power differences were only in the mapping as well.
I believe the heads, valves and cam are the same.
However the 55 engines found in the SLK55 CLK55 209 and C55 203 are different to the ones found in the 208 and the 210, the newer 55's have lighter parts and some engine components are different.
they also produce more power, 367hp v 345hp (or is it 354hp).
I read somewhere that there is no difference between 208 55 engine & 210 55.

I'll try and dig out the link tonight.
I've fitted the CLK55 engine and the E55 engine and the E55 is quicker in the 202 chassis.
I have no idea why though.
What's the physical difference between a 208 5.4 M113 and one from a W203 etc?
I don't think the later cars have a viscous fan, but other than that what parts have they made lighter and what engine components are different?
Genuinely interested
