As above is there any difference between both engines?

My personal opinion is the clk55 is 347bh and e55 is 354bh but this difference is done by the way they ecu is mapped

could just as easily be exhaust routing which may well be tighter in the smaller 202 based CLK.

I really think theres no differece between them but would like to know if there is

I know the starter is on the opposite side of the bell housing, i have always believed that the power differences were only in the mapping as well.
I believe the heads, valves and cam are the same.

yeah thats about right

I read somewhere that there is no difference between 208 55 engine & 210 55.

However the 55 engines found in the SLK55 CLK55 209 and C55 203 are different to the ones found in the 208 and the 210, the newer 55's have lighter parts and some engine components are different.

I'll try and dig out the link tonight.

they also produce more power, 367hp v 345hp (or is it 354hp).

You can fit one in the other without any issues.
I sold an engine from an e55 210 to someone with a clk and he didn't have any issues...

What's the physical difference between a 208 5.4 M113 and one from a W203 etc?

I don't think the later cars have a viscous fan, but other than that what parts have they made lighter and what engine components are different?

Genuinely interested :)

main visible difference is 203/209/171 V8 had a different engine cover with the engine builder signature plaque.

Yep - aware of the engine covers/plaque/airbox :), curious about any differences with the engines themselves :thumb:

I'm sure the 209/203 '55s have no viscous fan, probably different software maps and obviously different exhaust systems, but unsure of any physical differences on the actual engine components?

I've fitted the CLK55 engine and the E55 engine and the E55 is quicker in the 202 chassis.

I have no idea why though.

Still needs to be proved though he,he

the power differance between W208 and W210 55 engines is down to the exhaust system and maping. maybe the W210 engine is faster in the W202 than the W208 engine because it has had a harder life in the W210 chassie.

The only thing putting me off putting clk engine in my 202 is the BHP difference i can get clk engine pretty cheap dont know what to do really any advice?

I did have similar thoughts as mine is a CLK 55 engine and has "allegedly" had only 81k on it when Olly fitted it, and thought it might of just been tighter.
In a 202 with a 55 engine fitted, as far as I know they are running very similar exhausts and the 43 map in the ECU, so with the general consensus of this thread they "should" all be producing similar BHP figures.
When mine comes back from the body shop I,m gonna get it put on a rolling road which is long overdue, and see what it is actually BHP its producing, though that will be a bit off as its now been decatted and the middle box removed, stainless headers and K&N's.

I have looked at a few chipping/mapping company's and they seem to be able to get the similar BHP out of the 55 engine whether in an E class or CLK after chipping to me which says the only difference is in the mapp.

As mention Airbox is different.

The newer 55's found in the SLK55, C55, revs up to 6800k before it shifts up.

208 & 210 rev up to 6100k and and having owed a 210 55 and SLK55 and now C55 the 210 55 also sounds slightly different, (talking engine sound, not exhaust)

I'll have a look for the link when I get some time, will need to speak to my little brother, he's the one who showed me the link, he knows more than I do about these things, lol.:D
