Digital TV Tuner

As you have the TV tuner it would be best to use the retro digi tuner at around £625 or add one like we are doing, they are on ebay. the advantage of adding to the existing tuner is that it will run via the aux input and is not Command sensitive re talking to it

Retro digi tuner? What do I search for on ebay?

I have an E class (MOST) genuine retrofit tuner and the aerial adapter harness - it piggy backs the existing analogue tuner, and comes with a remote control (radio based I guess) to operate it, with video supplier via the TV tuner aux in

Its spare, so i'll accept a decent offer for it ! (I'm missing 1 screw/spacer, and manual is german but all else is there - I think if you have any MOST TV tuner in your car, you can fit this) (i.e DVD based comand systems)

I have fitted on to my SL. I used a home tuner that ran on 12v also I used one with a modulator otherwise every time I went to TV I would have to tune to AUX. This way I just push 0 and up it comes.

I extended the remote sensor and fitted on the A pillar passenger side, but I will change it for a wide angle later.

I have not moved all of the aerials over yet as I may use the draught screen as the digi aerial, the spacings are alsmost group B

it works fine, not in the sea where I live but at the top of the hill going out of town

As you are in the EU, if you dont use approved parts in your car it is grounds for cancellation of your insurance. Domestic appliances do not have the same approval as car electronics.

The official Mercedes kit is actually easier to install than your home-brew setup. The antenna splitter is part of the setup.

The unit is CE approved.

The official kit is £635 mine cost nothing.
I have a fault with my Command in that it will not communicate with Star, this meant that I could not activate the AUX, also it will not go to sleep, but other than that it works very well so I have put a timer in that shuts it down ½ hour after turning off.

The digi box that I used is rare in that it has a RF modulator, so I have used this in one of the aerial sockets and has the advantage that as soon as I press TV the digi box comes up without having to select AUX.

Digi signals do not like amplifiers or the low impedance cables that are used in the car, they have the effect of attenuating the signals in the UHF band above CH 30, you can force them through with an amp, but as I said it is not good.

When the analogue is turned off I can direct the 4 inbuilt aerials to it, but no point at this stage as the draught shield works.

The fact is that i will probably never watch it, but as I could do it I have,, and it did not cost me one penny.

I am still trying to get the split for the aerial, not easy and not that important

If Mercedes built cars the way owners hack them, then I am certain the owners would never be owners.

)

I resent the word Hack on what I have done, it is plugged in.

Is an Ipod plugged in a Hack

Within 2 years the existing tuner will be no good to man or beast, after that time I can gut the inside and fit mine own digi PCB one in the old tuner case.

I own a as new 20k mile car, I was sole UK service some years back For Yamaha, Nakamichi, Teac,Tascam,Harmon,JBL and Micro mega. So my standard of work is quite high

Miro, I think you are taking things way out of context, Ive fitted hundreds of aftermarket multimedia systems to a variety of cars, boats and trucks, these are all quality installations and very few were oem equiptment, just because it is not oem equiptment doesnt mean "its a hack". most "quality" aftermarket equiptment is better than oem!

televisions install does the job, and when its removed (when selling the car) no one will ever have known it was there. I cant see anything wrong with that!

i agree & nice install television!

You can fit a DVD player to the space shuttle for all I care. I stated my opinion and if you and television need therapy as a result of it then I suggest a good dose of Vitamin B and a walk in the Tate Modern.

There are two ways to do the work. OEM and some other way.

obviously miros got issues! nuff said really!

My car was not designed for digi with respect to the aerials, the cables are not suitable for this, my knowledge of doing this work has earned me enough money to buy the car, and every thing else in my life, if the retro digi box is as antiquated as the radio in the command, then I would not want it.

Old DVB-T digital receiver connection cable

When looking around for a DVB upgrade for my S500, I cam across the following Mercedes kits:

1. B6 782 6426 = DVB-T connecting cable for CAN, Cinch

2. B6 782 6427 = DVB-T connecting cable for CAN, MQS

3. B6 782 6434 = DVB-T connecting cable for MOST

I have a MOST analog tuner but have found/purchased only cable 2. It seems that it should work if I just leave the female MQS on the connecting cable unconnected. The video signal then goes via the RCA cables.

Correct?

Does Cable 3 give any other benefits to MOST cars, such as control via COMAND?

Is there anyone who has cable 3 to sell or wants to swap?
