Distronic Retrofit

Hi All,

Does anyone know of someone in the UK that would retrofit Distronic to my 2003 CLK500, it already has cruise control. Steve at MBenzNL has said he can do it, but I would need to take my car over to Holland.

I would also be interesting in the tyre pressure sensor, although the priority is the Distronic - think it would be great for our congested Motorways!!

Cheers,
Andy

I dont know where else would do it in the UK (maybe a merc dealer but i doubt it unless its a confirmed retrofit for your car). Steve is a great guy and i would go for him if the mod is that important to you;

i have the BMW version of "distronic" called Active Cruise Control. It is a very useful feature; and i recommend it.

However there its not great in congested motorways as it wont slow to a stop (unlike the new S class's Distronic PLUS) and there is always some To$$er ready to fill the gap in front of you, causing the car to brake!

I would only really recommend its usefulness when driving on constantly moving traffic at 40mph or faster.

Great for long journeys - i can drive on the M6 from Carlisle to Wolverhampton without pressing the brake or accelerator!!

You should visit Steve in NL! I have been to his workshop a couple of times and it's a pleasure to see the man tearing your car apart then reassembling with improvements! There is a cheap-ish hotel 5 minutes away too. The garage is about 3 hours from Hoek-van-Holland, that's a 3.5 hour ferry trip from Harwich and Harwich is about 1.5 hours from London. The Ferry is about £150 off-peak and if you do go on the Ferry don't forget to pay the extra £12 for the "Panorama Lounge" or whatever they call it these days! :)

Have you tried Braybrooks? Certainly NOT the cheapest company though.

That's a high price to pay for someone to phone Steve.
