Hello

My Car a 2003 ML350 has the following service stamps

1) 14787miles 'B' Service 15/04/2004
2) 26447miles 'A' Service 28/06/2005
3) 36145miles 'A' Service 26/03/2007 (when I bought it)

on 40000 miles I had the oil changed (10/04/2008) as I thought since I do so few miles that was a good idea and milage to next service was 8000.

Now its 02/06/2008 and its not had a 'proper service' but still saying 6000 miles to a service?

Do I need to service it? would that be an A or a B or do I wait for the millage counter to reach Service?? When I bought it it had the service and new front discs / pads so they should be ok.

I've only done 5000 miles in it so far but don't know how the service book works? if you just wait then great :)

Thanks

The car is telling you when it needs a service.
If you do so few miles, it will change from service due in 6,000 miles to one based on the time since last service. No need to change oil or worry.

I just thought it might look odd if its two years before I service it...

I also don't understand how Mobile care works so was worried if I need to service it.

Will wait for computer to say service :)

Thanks

Not sure of exact figures, but for example, if it is showing 6000 miles to next service now & you do not use it much, at some point it will change to next service due in 30 days, probably before the 2 years has passed.

Might as well use it then....

Based on my experience with a C270CDi, the service sequence your car has had is odd - it should alternate A & B. It's possibly correct that the first service was a B - mine flipped over from A to B at about 16K miles. However it's seems odd that you then had 2 A services.

On my car I've done much less miles than I expected, and it recently had a B service at 2yrs since its previous service. It had done about 14K, and, right on cue, the miles to service changed to days 1 mth before the 2 yr mark. The dipy girl at the dealership has messed things up a bit by putting the service date in the service book as Feb 07 instead of Feb 08..grrr. She wanted to alter it but I thought that probably wasn't a good idea.

As far as Mobilo is concerned, you're covered as long as the car has been serviced by dealer within the last 2yrs and isn't seriously overdue for service.

As far as the actual service work is required, it's all detailed in the service book but it's a complete mish-mash of time & miles. The dealer puts your cars VIN and mileage into an ESS (Electronic Service Sheet) system and that tells them what to do.

Do you have a single (A) or double (B) spanner in the miles-to-next-service display?

I'd just wait until ASSYST (ie the car) tells you to service it, and do an oil change in between if you fancy it. The A-service is pretty much an oil, filter and visual inspection anyway.

My dealer told me last week when I had mine done that if you don't have the additional items, eg spark plugs, done when ASSYST says it's due, then they will now refuse to stamp the book.

Hello I will check next time I'm in it.

What sort of price for an A or B service?

the oil change was £110 I thought that was a good idea due to my low miles :)

It was, oil becomes saturated with acid and fuel dilution as a result of time and mileage.

The Assyst will count down the days before 2 years is up. Mobilo requests a service every 2 years maximum duration.

MB Chester run ads in the Chester Chronicle quite often (they sponsor a section of the paper) advertising prices for servicing on a range of models. For cars they're typically around £200 for A service and £329 for B service - they look like they're about 20% off the "rack" price. Not sure on ML - there may be 4x4 related checks and service work that bumps the price up over a 2WD car.

I supplied my own oil and got a 20% discount and paid £135 (I think!! - only a week or so ago too) for an A-service on my C32 - which I'd imagine would be ball park similar to yours.

About £450 seems a good ball park for a B-service, and maybe save £100 if you supply your own oil - you should be able to negotiate an extra discount too, which is easier the old your car is as most dealers have a loyalty scheme of some sort.

Watch out for additional items. I think spark plugs are a 60k/4y item, brake fluid is a 2y item, and transmission oil possible 37k item.
