I all,

I have a clk 230k kompressor 2002 convertable. I am trying to find out whether it has a Bose system. Is there an easy way to find out?

I have already changed the standard system for a alpine w505r headunit with satnav, the front speakers for focals & switched the sub out for a jbl 8inch & fusion amp (which i already had) directly wired to the headunit. This set up Doesnt sound very crisp at the moment! I know I should have gone for a larger sub, but wanted to avoid modding the existing sub hole behind the seats.

Also I get a lot a rattle from the sub even though I used good sound deadening.

Any advise or comments to improve my sound.

Rear shelf speakers have Bose logos on the grilles if it has it.

Thanks Howard, but I have the convertible. No shelf speakers. I have removed front door speakers & sub & have not seen any sign of Bose tags. So I think mines not.

hi i have a 2001 clk but unfortunatly no bose system,,,, but cars with bose systems usually have the logo on the speaker grills on the door,,,, and to be fair should sound half decent already!

There is a bose logo on the sub if you have a bose system.

If its 'crispness' that's missing then fiddling with the sub will get you nowhere. You need to set the crossover in the head correctly. Ideally you should be sending all frequencies below 80-100hz to the sub and all others to the mids/tweeters.

if you have Bose, you will have a speaker between the rear seat cushions ..

Not sure about that Sean.

I had a speaker between the rear seat cushions on my old CLK cabrio , and that didn't have Bose.

The cabrios have a sub between the rear seat cushions to ' fill in ' due to the lack of parcel shelf speakers.

been a while since I had my CLK convertible ..

it may be the speaker directly under the center armrest

If you have changed the standard unit for anything other than a Mercedes unit and its working then you dont have Bose.

With Bose the speakers are all connected to the Bose amp. Your aftermarket head unit wont work with a Bose amp and the fibre used to communicate with it.

You can dramatically improve the sound by simply dynamatting the doors and replacing the speakers with a decent brand/model.

Hi all, thx for your responses.

I have a good set of cross overs that came with the focals. I had a sub behind the back seat but no Bose tags. I'm pretty sure no I don't have Bose system. Messed about with settings & amp & its sounding much better.

Now all I need to do is make the steering wheel headunit controls work. I'm thinking PAC Swi-jack for alpine & PAC can2 for Merc interface. Has anyone done this yet?

I have a 2002 CLK320. I have just looked in the boot and I have an amplifier in there with BOSE on the rear speakers but nothing on the front. I am looking at putting a Pioneer Appradio so does it look like I'm going to have to do a rewire for the speakers?

Hi Andy, as far as I know, you will have to rewire the speakers to get around the old Bose system, though I have no experience of this as my system was not the Bose one.

BTW this is a 3 year old dead thread, you might get a better response starting your own new one. Just a suggestion.

Cheers Steve.
