Does this cost for repairs sound right?

Not necessarily a reflection of the work they do of course, but someone should have proof-read their website for typos before it went live.

Service B sounds like a joke. I change my oil and filters at MOT every year anyway.
A Service + MoT is more thorough than B Service.

try another garage and see what they say.

save at least £49 by changing the lamp yourself :)

If the car has a valid mot and is yours to sell then i would seriously consider selling to the likes of WBAC. Up to them to assess the cars value.

But i find the notion of a 2014 car, let alone a Mercedes, needing a replacement timing chain quite unacceptable.

How much should this repair cost? So, it's come to get some repairs done on my E Class, E220 2014 Cabriolet AMG LINE Bluetec.

Ive noticed a rattle when the car starts, so that's the timing chain. I recently have a small crack on one of the rear springs on the drivers side so the car is dropped by an inch. This is what I was quoted by an independent mecerdes garage. It seems really steep to me for some of the work, considering I get V8's in classics, overhaul ect for much much less. I didn't want to keep the car for more than 2-3 years, its ULEZ compliant but I'll be needing something bigger soon. Am I getting ripped off or what?

1. Center Compartment - £154 (Car broken into, tramp broke the center console trying to get into it on one side of the lid.
2. Licence Plate Lamp - £49
3.A/C regas - £90
4. Brake Fluid Change - £80
5. Full Service B - £498 (I was told this includes timing chain but can't find anything online that references timing chain)
6. water pump, thermostat, coolant outlet - £688
7. 2x Front Suspension Arm - £563
8. 2x Rear Co Springs - £473

Total approx £5522 including all repairs/labour
Jeeze that's a lot of money, timing chain usually about 1k to get done as its easy enough.

If it's the later 4-pot diesel with the timing chain at the rear of the engine, isn't it an engine out job?

If it's a om654 that's in w213 then no it's not engine out. I've done loads of om651 chains and they can be done in situe also.... I've yet to see damaged guides that a lot of independents replace due to wear....

I may be able to help if you want most of that done!

Got a call back from Terry's firm, Getting official quote this afternoon but indicated timing chain job 1.3k parts and labour included.

Addition to the 5.5k is now £2809.40 for full timing chain job from the first company o_O

My vote goes to Terry :thumb:

Mine too. He won't rip you off.

He'll also give you an informed opinion on whether the timing chain actually needs changing.

My OM651 C250 cdi was £700 for the timing chain, tensioner, done with engine in the car by a merc specialist.
B service by the same garage was £286

Sounds like you are being fleeced.

Thread hijack.
Can you tell me what specialist you used, as I can't seem to find one here in Lincs.
