Does your alarm work?

After reading about dj_factor's break-in and ajs37's damage, it got me thinking.... How do I know if my car alarm is working?

I have tried half-closing the doors, but the s class has auto door-closers. I have tried nudging it at certain points, I have even tried pressing and holding the lock (and un-lock) button on my fob. But nothing!

So how safe is my car, when parked on the road?

Try throwing a brick throw the windows and let us know if you get it to go off...

a lot of the time alarm sirens are faulty on MB's... many models have the sirens mounted under the wheel arch.. if water finds its way into them they are toast...

We have changed a few over the years... but as you say you wouldnt know until you needed to!

I test my C43 alarm by sitting in the car and locking the doors, and moving a hand in front of the motion sensors.

Where are the motion sensors on the s class?

They'll drop down from the interior lighting panel mounted in the roof. Lock the doors and sit in the car, ager a short time you'll hear an electric motor sound and thats the little sensor dropping down.

I set mine off in December jacking the car up to put the winter wheels on, at least it will get checked every year now if I forget to unlock the car first.

I will lend you guys my Gran, should I fill up with Petrol and walk towards the kiosk, she will set it off instantly. She claims she doesnt move an inch ;)

Well..........................

Sat in the car, alarmed it, waited, heard the buzzing noise from above. Jumped around like I had a rat in the car..................... NOTHING!

Seems my alarm is dodgy.

Oh well-better pray extra hard that nobody nicks it.

Mine always goes off on the forecourt of garages with my kids inside - but it has a button to turn it off when you're inside - i just never remember to press it. :o

You'd better get that looked at. If it were nicked and it came out you willingly didn't have the alarm fixed or knew it was in a state of disrepair (a quick trawl of this place would unearth you) they may well not be so eager to pay out.

Insurers do anything to avoid paying out, you've presumably told them it has an alarm, not much good if it don't work....

Argh!! That means another trip to Orpington! Well like Jay said earlier, its common so may be a quick fix.

When I bought my car the alarm siren was not working. I tried all the Mercedes dealers all over Scotland and could not get one, some problem with them here I was told that it would take a couple of months before they got them back in stock. I got one from the Mercedes dealers in Kitchener Ontario for the same price as here $160 and had family post it over got it delivered within a week.
Jim.

You could always argue that the insurance proposal form only asked if your car had an alarm fitted . They never said anything about it having to be in working order :D
