Door ledge protection strip

This generally applies to those with pre-facelift W202 cars. How do I remove the rubber/plastic strip that protects the door ledge? Its not the plastic door protection sills which come up individually front and rear, it is the long black strip that sits on top of the sills a little lower down.

just yank it up, itshould unclip out

You really have to pull, to get it out. Careful you dont damage the paint when doing it.

Is it clipped or glued on? I've got some rust bubbles which need repairing and seeing as we wont have rain for a while yet, may as well repair it.
