Double DIN in a W202

I've been looking at the dashboard of W202s and have been thinking, under the head unit is a shelf of similar size to the stereo. Can I remove that and fit a double DIN head unit?

Would love to have an integrated sat nav in my car and I don't really like the pop out screen single DIN units.

Can any W202 owners advise me?

It comes out, so, with a little fabrication, I'm sure you could.

You would need to cut your trim to suit the double DIN unit along with fabricating a bracket to hold the unit in place. Shude did this to fit a Comand unit but I'm sure you can use the principles to make a similar thing to house your double DIN head unit.

A Command unit will go in a W202? Which model ? Does it have navigation?

I believe the command unit suitable for a 202 has to be an early 210,E class or ML unit.
I looked at doing this in one of my cars, you could use a double din frame (behind the dash panelling from a CLK or early E class IIRC, though as others have said you will have to fabricate a new dash panel or modify yours.
To be honest if i was to do this mod now I would use a more modern double din unit from Kenwood or maybe a Dynavin unit as these will have many more functions than a command unit of that age.

So an aftermarket double DIN unit (Kenwood etc) would fit it easier than trying to fit a Command unit?

The Comand 2.0 unit is old and outdated. Better off with a double din from the likes of Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer etc. Just google 'w202 double din' plenty of info.

Look in the how to section and their is a picture thread to show this done fitting a double din command unit

Saw Shude's How To on fitting a double DIN.

Very informative. If I can get a satnav double DIN head unit without getting my hat nailed on, will certainly give it a go! :thumb:

I have done this in my clk, just needed to trim some plastic to make a standard double din fit. I found it very easy.

I brought a alpine w505r with docking station for sat nav & built in Bluetooth for mobile.

Very happy with it

Coincidence! - I went to see David Price at d:class about doing this to my c43 - he's going to make a replacement centre console panel that extends down to the top of the ashtray and has a double din aperture in it… trouble is he won't be able to match the faux-carbon pattern, so all the current trim will need to be re-finished to match.. then Braybrooks are join got fit a command 2.0 unit and OEM hands-free phone. Waiting to see what the cost will be...

££££££££££s I reckon :crazy::eek:

I have prices for the Command (£750 + VAT installed) and Phone (£600 + VAT installed)… waiting to hear the cost of the interior trim form d:class (they're also going to re-trim the seats)

consider a dynavin unit if there is one I have one in my w203 and rate it.
