For all motorist.

When VAT was temporarily reduced to 15%, the Chancellor added 2% duty to fuel to offset the reduction in tax collected from motorists. Now that VAT has been increased to 17.5% again this hidden tax has not been removed - hence recent rises in your fuel costs. Sign the petition at the link below to have this stealth tax removed!

Petition to: Fuel duty reduction, now VAT has increased to 17.5%, please deduct the duty which was levied when vat was reduced to 15%. | Number10.gov.uk

I thought fuel seemed very expensive at the moment (upto 118.9 for diesel now)

I didn't know about this interim tax thats...err..... no longer interim

Theiving beggars!

signed!

Like that will ever be removed. Not by this government any way. They don't know how to tax unless the motorist is involved.

That said, an election is looming so you never know!

Just digressing and out of curiosity. Does anyone know of any of these online petitions ever amounting to anything?

My business is VAT registered and pays the scale charge for private use, so I never saw the benefit when the chancellor cut the vat and stuck the extra on in any case.

Claimed to be cutting VAT to help business then put up the fuel costs in the same breath.

I'll be dammed if he thinks he's getting any more of my money.
To compensate, from tomorrow I'll be driving 2% slower than usual.
HA, that'll show him.

It's the 21st century . Everyone's meant to be working from home, surely no one actually drives for a business!!! ;)

Like Mars bars shrinkling over the years I think the Litre has too.
I'm going to vote for the Litre to be recalibrated so that it's made 20% larger. :)

Thing is, if they cut the tax on fuel, where's the money going to come from? Extra on road tax or more VAT or whatever.

They'll get it one way or another...

Will

£40 to fill the Golf, £60 the Merc and £100 the landy - which gives me 180, 250 and 450 miles respectively :D

I'm sure GB will be sorting that tax out right now :D :D

In the 2009 budget, it was a commitment that fuel duty will increase each April by 1p per litre every year from 2010 - 2013.

Thats before you factor in inflation and oil price fluctuations.

And before you factor in whatever the hell is happening behind the scenes. After all, oil prices are lower now I am led to believe than when we were paying 80p/litre, so why is it so high - I don't believe the extra 30-40p is all tax.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we had a government that listened to the electorate?

Then your petition might be worth something.

When the next round of tax rises come along, this one will look minute in comparison. Enjoy it while you can.

Forget online petitions and moaning on t'interweb.

Take half an hour and moan to your local MP. Get him to raise a motion in Parliament about it.

Especially if your MP is in opposition ................

Done.

signed i cant wait until election time!!
