Duty Reduction

Fuel tax coule end up being a key election issue I think - especially with petrol/diesel so high at the moment. They will all promise to do something about it and I expect we'll see some discounts in the run up.

However as with many election promises, I expect it to be forgotten once they are in power.

Forget online petitions and moaning on t'interweb.

Take half an hour and moan to your local MP. Get him to raise a motion in Parliament about it.

Especially if your MP is in opposition ................

Dear Mr Reid

I would first of all like to wish you a happy new year and best wishes for 2010.

However with the state of the roads after the "big freeze" then the "big thaw" you can understand that many British and indeed local motorists are now even more unhappy with the state of the roads in 2010. I would like to ask what you propose to do about repairing the roads, several potholes on the A814 have now appeared just before entering Dumbarton (east bound direction) and post quite a hazard and will become a bigger hazard if not repaired. The roads in upper Helensburgh are now nothing more than glorified tracks.

I am sorry to say but what is needed is a major investment in upgrading the road surfaces (rather than the feeble filling of cracks and holes as done before). This might be a good way to kick of a 2010 election campaign as this is a highly emotive subject that needs addressing, its as paramount as healthcare, eduction and crime these days. Furthermore with so many of us relying on the roads to provide a safe, comfortable method of transport now has never been a better time to tackle the inconvenient truth, that they are a total shambles and real time and effort is needed to provide a road network that is representative of Britains position as a developed country in the 21st century.

Perhaps a bigger bugbear is that the issue of fuel duty, since VAT increased back to 17.5% the additional levy on fuel when VAT was cut to 15% has not been removed now VAT sits at 17.5%. It seems that Mr Darling has strategically omitted to remove the additional tax on fuel since VAT was increased. I would urge you to lobby the chancellor to re-appraise this diabolical and shameful exploitation of the British motorist, particularly as such a disappointment of a road network is delivered back.

From memory I recall you campaigned heavily to see the A82 upgrade between Tarbert and Crianlarich, this was very pleasing to see our local MP get so involved with such a pertinent issue in the area. Since the ravages of winter its even more important that the A82 upgrades are reviewed and pushes for.

With best wishes for 2010

Stephen Taylor

Tut tut tut ;)

You're keeping it real Steve. If you wrote like a posh toff he'd never believe you were really concerned about fuel duty.

I'll be dammed if he thinks he's getting any more of my money.
To compensate, from tomorrow I'll be driving 2% slower than usual.
HA, that'll show him.

It's the 21st century . Everyone's meant to be working from home, surely no one actually drives for a business!!! ;)

I do work from home - well the shed in front of home:D

Sadly my clients will insist on acquiring premises around the country...

Things you have to do to earn a living.

A swift kick in the nads usually reminds them what their civic duties are .....
