Hi All,

I replaced the battery on my E320 cdi w211 53-reg AG estate.

I managed to reset the windows but my DVD player no longer works.

No matter what DVD I put in the thing whirs and then DVD error appears on screen. Then it says no disc??

CDs work, nav works......help

Just a shot in the dark:

The DVD player has reset to its 'Default region', say 3 (Southeast Asia and Taiwan), and we are region 2 in the UK & Europe, hence the "Disk Error". [Perhaps the drive was not built in Europe?]

Try a disc cleaner in the drive. It's a good thing to do anyway, and will do no harm.

Disconnect the battery, count to 10 and reconnect. Perhaps the DVD player 'booted up' incorrectly or read its firmware incorrectly? (Clutching at straws now!)

Cheers

OK, I have checked the region setting and it is multi region. I will try a disc cleaner and if not take the battery off again.

Does anyone know if both batteries need to be disconnected or just the main one?

Oh, here is a 'Black Magic' thing to do (ie. don't ask for an explanation):-

Disconnect the rear battery and check the DVD is dead. Now leave it disconnected over night. Reconnect and you should be golden. (Yes, I know; it's very weird..!)

Cheers

Really?

The CD/Nav etc all work but the DVD has decided to not play DVD at all?

Anyway, I guess it is worth a try right?

OK...update.....Cleaned the lene with a branded cd lense cleaner.....no effect.

I disconnected the battery for 1hr......still the same error.

The Nav/MAP/audio CD and everything elses seems to work fine, except DVD's

Doh !

Just making sure ... have you tried a different DVD?

Well, I'm disappointed to hear that the 'Magic' didn't work.

The unit will have two laser diodes, one for CDs, the other DVDs, so if the latter has been either weakened or simply broken by the power off/power on, then this would explain your dichotomy.

Sorry, other than a firmware update by a MB dealer (£££), I'm fresh out of ideas :(
