E class estate: 211 amg or new 212?

they are very reliable, yes the parts are more but they last fairly well in my opinion and from experience. I would get the E63 due to the fact you will miss that smile on your face when you start it up in the morning. Things like that.

211 AMG .. much more of an ocassion.

depreciation will probably be about the same as a new 212 estate.

fuel consumption will be a bit scary if you drive it like it's meant to be driven .. but what fun :) :)

then, it's a no brainer, as our American friends would say :)

I'm not so sure. The reason for a change is really to move to a more reliable car. Will a new 212 be better than a 211 amg? I suspect it will simply because of the complexity of the amg although I am reassured by some of the posts about the 211 on this thread. I don't cover a big mileage so petrol costs are not a dealbreaker for me.

Hello Biglips - what did you decide in the end?

£30K would get you a spectacularly good late S211 with lots of options and low mileage.

Mine was significantly less than £30K on a 2008 plate so you should be comfortably into 2009 territory even as an "approved used" from MB.

At the current rate that the 212 63 AMG is dropping in value by, he should be able to buy one of those if he waits!

If you want reliable, Honda. The hire option for holidays makes good sense to me. I think if you like your car you should keep it.

I have done a short term swap with a mate for holidays too. Do you have a friend with a ultra reliable cruiser?

Or what about hiring a new T5 transporter conversion? Surf boards no problem and a cooker for fresh egg butties.

You don't have to sleep in it

I'm going to hire a 212 for our next trip. Gives us reliable transport plus I get to see how I get on with it. I think that you can be very easily seduced by a new car on a single test drive, even a weekend test. A couple of weeks touring should show the true colours.

My mate has done a conversion and he uses it to take his family on road trips. Great surf bus, but I would prefer something with a bit more grunt. I blame my mid life crisis.

Tom, im in the same boat as you RE the S211 :)
