What a pain in the ass this car is!!!
I couldn't open the boot, the rear number plates lights were not working and the boot lights were also not working!
The Fix!
Open the boot with key from inside the fob.
Left hand side of the boot where the boot hinge is pull the black poppers out and pull the carpet down so you can see the rest of the boot hinge. You will then see the problem!! MB tire wrapped the wiring loom to the hinge and over the years the hard plastic tire wraps have sawn through the webbing and the wires!!! re connect all your wires all very simple and hey presto everything works again!
Hope this helps anyone with the same problems:rock:

Fixed mine the other day, the electrical boot closure was playing up, so first port of call was the boot wiring.

it will be the boot wiring loom on the left hand side hinge.

wires snap or rub and split where the boot is opened and closed.

I had one light go out on the number plate due to a sheared wire.

Take the hinge cover off and left hand boot lining off and it should be pretty obvious

This.

Mine went last year, very common.

just to add, you can join\solder\insulate the break to repair, fairly easy

Your way is the best and correct way but i only had 10 mins to sort so l used a row of connector blocks so l could use the car that evening been ok for the last 3 months. When it warms up l'll sit in the boot and solder them up properly.
