I went to the car this morning and the key fob wouldn't unlock it (at first) I then noticed that the boot pop button and the lock button were working fine, after enough presses of the unlock key I was in the car and away.

I arrived at my daughter's nursery, turned the engine off, locked the car and walked away, came back to it unlocked it first time, started the engine and off I go again (no problem).

Arrived at work, parked up, turn the engine off and the key was stuck in the ignition, ( i couldn't get it out ) I tried to start the engine again and it wouldn't start ( no response whatsoever ) the key wouldn't go all the way to the left, after enough fiddling with it ( over 5 mins ) it eventually allowed me to remove the key.

????

Both sets of key fobs had brand new batteries fitted only a few months ago. I've replaced the set in this key this morning in light of the problems I'm facing but I'm concerned this isn't the cause of the problem.

I've replaced the batteries in this key set and the car seems a lot more responsive to it (unlocking from a further distance etc) so I'll have to see how things go I guess. It could have been a bad set of batteries.

Go to MB dealer and tell them your problem, I bet you will not be charged and you get a bundle of advices. Be wary if they asked you to buy something, the worse to buy a set of batteries from them.

If your new batteries are Energiser(fomerly Eveready), it not good for your fobs. Buy good quality button batteries.

If you got auto transmission, if you do not return the lever to parking you cannot release it, dont try it, it will break your ignition barrel.

the batteries I use are Panasonic ones as they were what were in the fob when I bought the car and with it being a company car previously it will have only ever been worked on by Mercedes, so if they weren't the originals already there was a very good chance Mercedes replaced them.

key fob issues

Got a similar problem with mine, e320 w211, door will not open during daylight hours using the remote, lock it at night but have to use the key in the morning which sets off the alarm.
Indi garage said he had replaced the batteries and that he had found this problem when the car was in for a service.
Strange that it works in the dark though.
Any ideas?

Know little "Bzrrrrr" sound you get when the key goes into the lock unit?

Has that been sounding a bit slower or grindy than it did? I had to have a new unit a couple of years ago, fortunately covered by Service plus.

Not starting/key getting stuck now and again was one of the faults I experienced before it packed up completely. (lucky for me on the driveway.)
